New to Shantae

Never played a Shantae game previously. Is this a good starting point, or is there something else I should play first?

I don't think it matters what order you play the games in.
I haven't played this game and have really only played Shantae Risky's revenge

If you want story, here's the Chronological Order:
Shantae - Game Boy Color/3DS
Shantae: Risky's Revenge - DSi/3DS/PC
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse - 3DS/PC
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - PC/PS4/Xbox One
(Some platforms not listed for some games cuz I'm not well informed about the existence of the games on those systems)

And if you're looking at getting Half-genie hero for the first time, you'll probably wanna get the Ultimate Edition. Probably'll be more expensive but it's probably worth it if you don't own either version already as you get more content for a single fee and if I'm not mistaken Ultimate Edition also has some bug fixes and small QoL stuff that regular edition does not.

I would suggest not starting with the GBC version.
This is because it's limited to the capabilities of the GBC but the more recent versions are much better.

Pirate's curse is on switch, start there if u own a switch, skip half genie hero, and definitly buy 7 sirens when it comes out.
