Where's the original Shantae?
I went into this game thinking it was a rehash of the original Shantae (from Gameboy Advance) but with a fresh coat of a paint. I quickly realized this wasn't the case, as all the characters seem to be familiar with each other and so it seemed to be a continuation from the last title (or could fit before the last two titles). Well, anyway, who knows? For all I know this could be the way it was in the original Shantae as well.

Anyway, I'd like to know if we'll ever get a chance to play the original Shantae game? Or is this something that can't happen due to overcomplicated legalities and such?

The other games are on GOG, but not the first.

A solid port (not emulation) of the original to Steam and other platforms would be much appreciated. :shantae_relax:
I do have a Wii. I haven't checked their online store in forever though. Maybe I can find it there.
Although, as Cheese said, a solid port would be much preferable. Maybe Way Forward can work toward giving us the original story. I'd love to play an updated version. And it would be nice if they chose to include the original, unaltered game like some game companies have done lately with their game relaunches.

The first Shantae is available as a Virtule Console game on the 3DS only, as far as I'm aware. I never played it on the GBC, but Nintendo's Virtule Console is a pretty solid system from my experience, and Shantae was no exception.

Or play on emulator.

Yeah I would go the emulation route as well due to the rarity and horrific extreme price for a gamboy cartridge as it would not justify the cost!

Gotta agree. Virtual Console version is actually affordable. Assuming you have a 3DS already, of course.

There are four ways you can play first Shantae game:

1. Emulate the game
2. Buy reproduction cartrige for Shantae. (Works on GBC, GBA, GBA Sp.)
3. Buy it on Nintendo 3DS eShop.

*4. Buy actual cartrige. (but for that, you will have to sell a house lol)

So first 3 options should do the trick.

No, don't do that. Screw the scalpers. Instead, get one of these

Works perfectly if you wanna play it on a GBC or GBA or Gameboy player. Still don't know why the original ain't on steam but there are plenty of options and I'm sure the devs (where are they?) don't mind.

A proper remake would be nice.
I mean, half the job is done already.

More like a third or quarter or even less than that. Every asset would have to be redone in HD (you can bring some stuff over from HGH, but not everything). You cannot seriously even consider using the original GBC music and audio. The engine and coding would have to be redone pretty much from scratch. Which means the actual game would have to done almost from scratch. Even the design would need updates.

I was gonna suggest using Risky's Revenge's assets.

If they remake the old GBC game, i hope they keep the dance system as it was back then. The new one in half genie hero was good, but lacked the feel of her actually doing different moves for different transformations.

Yeah, RR and PC assets combined would be enough. Besides that way, 3 games (Remake > RR > PC) would seem more connected and be a trilogy while future HD ones can be considered sequels of HGH which is rebootish.
My line of thinking exactly.

I think the developers need to find more ways to insert dancing into the game, other than the transformations. Provide more dance-like elements into the combat? Make dancing sequences?

Shantae never was officially a full-time bellydancer. I've finished the later three gams and halfway into the first. She is in a dancer costume but she or anyone else never says that she is a professional. As far as I can tell, its more of a passion hobby than anything else.

You seriously want to use assets originally developed for the GBA in 2017? For an official, priced game? Especially for a variety of consoles, sold at full price? No.

Maybe some modder or ambitious fan might be able to do it, but not Wayforward, not officially. Note that the games are not modable. So someone needs either to somehow get their hands on developer tools or remake the first game (which you'd end up doing anyway, even if you take all the content from Pirate's Curse).

Pirate's Curse did EXACTLY that in 2014, and it looks better than HGH in many ways. What's the issue supposed to be exactly?
