Although, as Cheese said, a solid port would be much preferable. Maybe Way Forward can work toward giving us the original story. I'd love to play an updated version. And it would be nice if they chose to include the original, unaltered game like some game companies have done lately with their game relaunches.
Yeah I would go the emulation route as well due to the rarity and horrific extreme price for a gamboy cartridge as it would not justify the cost!
1. Emulate the game
2. Buy reproduction cartrige for Shantae. (Works on GBC, GBA, GBA Sp.)
3. Buy it on Nintendo 3DS eShop.
*4. Buy actual cartrige. (but for that, you will have to sell a house lol)
So first 3 options should do the trick.

Works perfectly if you wanna play it on a GBC or GBA or Gameboy player. Still don't know why the original ain't on steam but there are plenty of options and I'm sure the devs (where are they?) don't mind.
A proper remake would be nice.
I mean, half the job is done already.
More like a third or quarter or even less than that. Every asset would have to be redone in HD (you can bring some stuff over from HGH, but not everything). You cannot seriously even consider using the original GBC music and audio. The engine and coding would have to be redone pretty much from scratch. Which means the actual game would have to done almost from scratch. Even the design would need updates.
Shantae never was officially a full-time bellydancer. I've finished the later three gams and halfway into the first. She is in a dancer costume but she or anyone else never says that she is a professional. As far as I can tell, its more of a passion hobby than anything else.
You seriously want to use assets originally developed for the GBA in 2017? For an official, priced game? Especially for a variety of consoles, sold at full price? No.
Maybe some modder or ambitious fan might be able to do it, but not Wayforward, not officially. Note that the games are not modable. So someone needs either to somehow get their hands on developer tools or remake the first game (which you'd end up doing anyway, even if you take all the content from Pirate's Curse).
