How does this version compare to the Dreamcast release; are the visuals improved at all? It's really hard to tell from Youtube.

What about controller support? Do I have to use a XBOX controller or can I use a stick or USB Sega Saturn game pad?

Also, I've never played the Gamecube version, so I don't know if there are any differences between the two.

I don't see any in-game enhancements beyond supporting higher resolution. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, but the assets themselves look the same to me as it does via VGA Dreamcast, but the Steam version is noticeably sharper looking thanks to the resolution bump.

You can use the Xbox controller, and tate is supported as well.

What about sticks and gamepads? I have the Virtua Stick and Sega Saturn USB (they don't need adapters) will they work?

Depends if they're Xinput or DirectInput controllers; by default the game only recognizes Xinput. If they're DirectInput, use x360ce.
