Ikaruga has a double play mode, letting you control both ships with the same controller. im unlocking the achievements for it right now.

i'm assuming Treasure put it into the game after community feedback. Its tough to control each ship with a analog stick.

When you pick two player, you get the option for either Double Play (control both ships by yourself - hard as balls) or local co-op.
