Respawn Beacons

I made a respawn beacon in my world but it doesn't seem to do anything.
- I've tried interacting with it (makes the error sound)
- I've tried putting it on the surface
- I've tried loading my world in a server AND placing it on the surface
No matter what I do, I respawn near the tower when I die.
Am I missing something about this block? I've tried googling for answers too and nothing seems to mention any issues.

when you hover over it it says "left click" and when you right click it makes a error sound so try left clicking? ik this is late but hopefully its not a bug because it works for me

Hey so this is very late but if you place it down with left click instead of right click it makes a noise and works
