Byzantium was destroyed by Ottomans before the time period that our game covers. Renaissance Kingdom Wars starts at 1510. We do plan to add a quest line allowing player to conquer Instambul / Constantinople and resurrect Byzantium faction.

So does all factions have their own unit roster? Or are they classified or clustered into two or three different faction types? Ie a Christian faction and a Muslim faction

We have two roasters right now - Christian and Muslim. Each nations units do have unique names, and unique stats, but no unique art. We plan to add more uniqueness for different nations post-release, lots of plans for free expansions in this regard.

Does the game also include a sandbox mode where all factions are present at the same time?

All the factions are present in all gameplay modes. But in sandbox player can start as any of the lords of the world, around 100 lords to choose from.

I think Kingdom Wars 4 has more factions. I refunded this one and got KW4.
