Great to see someone spending so many hours with the game. And yeah - these cheats on the world map can really help try some doom stacks and a lot more.
Also have you tried playing after our 8th update?Difficulty has been significantly increased, it really has been a walk in a park before that update. Now even I am having a challenging time on hard/hard difficulty in Campaign mode.
I've tried on hard/hard, starting as different factions. The fact the player can purchase musketeers from the get go makes the game too easy no matter what. There is nothing you cannot do with 3-4 musketeers. If renown would allow it you could conquer all of England, Scotland and Ireland within the first two months with a single half filled army.
What does add challenge, however, is the infinite amount of bugs. Especially when successfully defending a hamlet/city, and randomly and suddenly get the message that the attackers have conquered the city while also having their entire army intact after, even when you slaughtered 90% of it.
The gameplay mechanics makes this entry more interesting than MKW or KW4, but even without the bugs, the time era (and massive inaccuracies and inconsistencies because of it) and balance very much ruin it, at least for now.
I also find it hard to believe this game was made from scratch, when the exact same bugs as in previous entries are still present. Some of them since time memorial.
I've been "with" this studio since the first Kingdom Wars, which was Fantasy themed. Perhaps it's just nostalgia talking, but I feel like this was still the better game. The fantasy setting made it a lot more interesting, especially since I feel like you've never taken real advantage of the realistic themes you've switched to. (In fact, in each game you just get criticized for not being historically accurate. Which would be a non issue in a non realistic setting.) And the ambition behind the MMORTS gameplay was grand, though riddled with P2W elements even after Dragons and such became available for all.
Alas, through the years I see you try all kinds of shenanigans to milk this product for all you can. From things like The King's Campaign to never actually leaving a game in a "finished" state. I don't necessarily blame you, nor am I saying you're unfair or lying, as this is not the case. (Except that Renaissance is build from the ground up - it cannot be true. The fact you keep updating KW4 and MKW simultaneously proves as much.) But, it's like the Dominions dev, except he goes even lower effort but gets away with it successfully, mostly thanks to the fact that Dominions is a polished product that just keeps being added to. Kingdom Wars has never once been polished, always been rough around the edges, never finished. Yet the next iteration is always already in the works.
I really want this to be a great game, a great series. I've seen the devs state before that "this time" they will make it so. That "this time" they are gonna stick with it.
So far I remain incredibly skeptical, especially considering the current state of the game and apart from the resource system, how little it differs from previous iterations. It's been over a decade of slight disappointment, time and time again... So again, I want to believe it as I want this game to be great. As it's the only one of its kind. But hopes are pretty low, especially if I look at predicted sales of this iteration, I think it only makes sense Konstantin will eventually move on again, which would be a shame as the same bugs and issues will once again remain for the next iteration.
As the cycle has been for over a decade, is most likely how it will continue.
