Voice recognition not working

So I have my mic set up and says it's being used by this game and when I hold shift the red mic icon appears but when I say something, nothing happens. I say "What happened" and the icon appears but no subtitles show and I don't know what is missing. Nothing happens in game. Can someone help me? I have windows and it says mic is being used

Check steam audio settings and see if right mic is selected

Thanks I checked both steam and my computer and made sure the mic was selected and that worked

Not working for me....
There's just this red mic icon when I press the voice button.
It doesn't show any subtitles when I say anything, nor I get any response. I have checked the steam mic settings, and have selected my mic correctly. The mic test is also working fine on steam.

Can I play this game without microphone?

I was playing with a headset, when the mic icon was red it was listening to my mic. But whatever I said, it only heard "What happened" "where are you" and "go Away".
And nothing else... Even what I was specifically asking "who are you" the game heard "Go away" so the ghost came and killed me.

I played without hedset, no mic, whenever I was holding shift after a while my character stared saying "what happened" all by himself.
