ANNOUNCING PATHWAY.
Hey Halfway players!

We are very excited to announce our next project “Pathway":
Inheriting the best parts of Halfway and mixing it with lots of new elements, Pathway is a tactical RPG set in a 1930s pulp adventure scenario:

Head over to our Steam page to watch the trailer and have a look at what we have been working on:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/546430/Pathway/

THE YEAR IS 1936...
It is a time of global unrest as German military influence is spreading throughout Europe and the Middle East. Rumors of frantic excavations and strange artifacts, not to mention ghastly occult rituals, have begun to surface across secret communication channels...

THEY TOOK OUR FRIEND...
Morten has vanished. The Nazis took him because he interfered with their occult research. We have to rescue him before it's too late. And afterwards, who knows what other adventures await?

KEY FEATURES:

  • THRILLING VISUALS - Classic 16-bit pixel art enhanced with unprecedented depth, lighting and shadows using Pixel/Voxel Hybrid Technology.
  • DYNAMIC ADVENTURES - No two adventures are the same; each campaign generates a new procedural map and a different set of unique story encounters.
  • TOUGH CHOICES - Every location you visit presents a new hand-crafted story event to explore. Search the well? Save the villagers? It's up to you!
  • DECISIVE CONFLICTS - Use cover and positioning in exciting turn-based squad combat. Learn to maximize your items and abilities, as well as your team members' strengths, in ruthless and clever ways!
  • HIDDEN TREASURES - Discover rare artifacts to unlock new content and adventures! Recruit from 16 unique companions, each with their own starting equipment and skill trees!

2017...
Guys, it seems great, but I have to ask...
Will we EVER get a sequel to Halfway?

thanks folks! :) <3

@Farcast: We definitly want to continue on the story of Halfway. We have actually quite some stuff to tell in that universe. But out of many reasons we decided to do something else before that. I'm quit sure you will not be disappointed once you can play it.

Of course, and I plan to buy it and support you guys, I just wish open endings weren't used when a sequel isn't immediately and surely coming...

Somehow I missed this altogether. I'll try to hawk it on my Steam activity feed. :steamhappy:

I think lots of us fans would've been happy for some moderate official Halfway DLC mini campaign or something. There just didn't seem to be any interest by fans in modding.

While I've fought off the urge to exclaim it's 35 years too late to do a Raiders of the Lost Ark TBS game :-), I'm sure I'll be first in line for it and eager to do a Steam Characters Game Guide for it as I did for Halfway. :-)

P.S. I do hope you guys create a maybe less clunky/simpler inventory handling system for the new game -- then if it works well, we can see that in Halfway some day. :)

And I wonder if you'll given in to the "overwatch-mode crowd" and implement that in some way. Or will you say, "no way! go play XCOM!" :)

P.S. You guys might want to sticky this thread since it's your own official announcement. :)

Thanks BlackjackGT. We took many critics from HW very serious and I think most of the guys who enjoyed HW will love Pathway.

We are here to learn and improve. :)

OK, sounds cool. :-)

Given the Indiana Jones-ish motif, will at least one character have whip skills?

:steamhappy:

Could be the ability to stun a distant target, or maybe to lasso and "pull" a distant target to melee range. :)

May I ask, why did you choose to go with a deterministic hit-system this time? That's the one thing that jumped out at me, and one that I'm not exactly thrilled about.
seminus  [developer] Sep 2, 2016 @ 1:01am
@Hazard:
We think that there are better ways then randomness to create thrilling fights. We were very frustrated how bad it feels to miss a 80% shot 3 times in a row while standing next to a target. This is how randomness works, but that is no fun.
We are working on a very interesting system that I'm very certain many will love, because it feels way more tactical then HW ever did.

We will start doing tests with players do gather more feedback later on, but currently we are very happy with how the game plays and how strategically it feels.

@BlackjackGT: Thanks :) The whip is in discussion here too. No promises yet because it needs to make sense in the overall gameplay. ;)

Do you plan a crowdfunding campaign? Your customers'd like to support you!
Or how about EA?
seminus  [developer] Sep 6, 2016 @ 11:22pm
@i_nive: Nothing is set yet on how we are going to make the game release. This is still in discussion.
On crowd funding: More likely not. At least we have no plans for it at the moment.

The whip of course would also need to let the character swing across chasms even if it seems technically impossible to "unwrap" the whip from the branch/tree/log etc. once across the gap. :steamfacepalm:

Halfway was actually a very pleasant surprise for a "simple looking" game. I will definitely check out Pathway.

And I was hoping for another scifi themed game. :(
Oh well, gotta finish halfway first tho.
