I have been turned of grimdark, miserable media before. It all depends on whether or not it's just being grimdark to seem "edgy" and "deep", while actually being rather superficial, or if it's actually actually exploring the dark themes and makes you think. I feel like the latter is the case here.

If you don’t want to spend too much time on NG+, turn on modifiers like “infinite ammo” and it will be a walk in the park. Yes, it completely destroys the experience but some people have limited time.
