Ellie vs Abby

Ellie for me. The best character. I didn't like Abby. The story in The Last of Us 2 disappointed me at the end

Abby is the worst character in the game in decades. I get completely bored with parts of the game when I have to play with her. Not being able to kill her at the beginning of the game is the biggest flaw in the game. I also don't believe that the script for the second part was written by an adult. Already a simple AI would have done a better job of writing the story than what we got. Heavily wasted potential of the game.

Abby is not the problem here. She's a great character.

The 1st game is very simplistic. 2nd is much MUCH better.

I agree. But 1st is closer to the intellectual level of some players who need good/bad, black/white and happily ever after. There are plenty of dumb zombie games, maybe that’s what they need.

I agree. But 1st is closer to the intellectual level of some players who need good/bad, black/white and happily ever after. There are plenty of dumb zombie games, maybe that’s what they need.

The second part also has the good/bad. When you play as Ellie, Ellie is good and Abby is bad. When you play as Abby, Ellie is bad and Abby is good. No one expects a happily ever after ending.

Killing a pregnant woman as Ellie is good ? Killing your own people as Abby (Day 3, the island) is good ? LOL
Wrong game if you're looking for "good guys". Dina and Jesse may pass as "good" but they're just NPCs.

Ellie didn't know that Mel was pregnant, and then she was embarrassed about it, and it was only self-defense. For me, Ellie is a good yes and I will always be on her side.

Abby proved herself to able to have way more personal growth and realizing the emptiness of revenge way sooner than Ellie. I like them both 'cause they're complementary. Choosing sides literally goes against the point of the narrative.

Ok I just don't like the style in which the story of Last of Us 2 is done. I don't like the direction the story has taken. All wrong. For me, the best story in Last of Us 1. Last of Us 2 disappointed me. It's like season 8 of Game of Thrones for me, disappointing. Sorry for the opinion

Abby for me. More personal growth and interesting arc. She changed. She tried to let go of her hatred and to redeem herself. Helping the kids. Ellie not as much. Ellie had a second chance at a good life but was selfish in the end, even though she spared Abby.
I did not like the end either. Why would Tommy even make Ellie feel guilty like that. No man would do that to someone with a family to take care of. Did not feel realistic. Would been much better if it had ended with Dina, JJ and the house on the hill. No need to make it a sad story again.. Been there, done that.

Players are seriously confused if they can't get over Joel's death and still think Abby is the villain. If TLOU Part 1 revolved around Abby and her gang, they would hate Joel as much as Abby did. Sadly, the EQ of many people is as low as that of a 9 year old.

With that said, I think Naughty Dog treaded into pretentiousness and really went out of their way to communicate the very simple message "violence begets violence". Every person who doesn't have the brain of a child got the message early on and Part 2 would've been stronger for it if it tried to tell something different too.

Yes it's just a game... a rather ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one and that's my personal opinion on it. Deal with it or don't, The devs wanted to cause strong reactions within the players, they got one.

You're a kid, aren't you? That's fine. You're still developing emotionally. Let's do a thought experiment, though: Imagine in Part 1 you followed Abby's origin story. Maybe you played as her dad, who protected her from many dangers as she was growing into a young woman. They found a crew, heard about an immune kid, set up a Firefly base in a hospital etc etc etc. Then this guy comes with the immune kid, goes into an EFFING RAMPAGE and murders your unarmed dad with a scalpel.

I am one-HUNDRED percent certain that you, syphedias84 (please tell me your birthyear isn't 1984), would hate Joel as much as Abby did and would revel in his death.

Just let that detonate in your brain for a second, and give Part 2 a chance. Maybe you'll even hate Ellie more than Abby in the end. I know I do.

They should've made people play Abby's story first, in fact multiple points in her story feel like that was intended to be the first story line, especially when you're on the pier and you're fighting Tommy, as you quickly see glimpses of him and if you recently played TLOU1 you could recognise him

I partially agree. I ranted to a friend when Abby's part started as I believed it was very on the nose: It was already obvious while playing Ellie that Ellie was murdering good people. There was a beautiful "show don't tell" fashion about it. Somehow, Naughty Dog thought they had to "tell" it too. I found it terribly redundant and it only got interesting with the introduction of Lev.
