Ellie vs Abby
Ellie for me. The best character. I didn't like Abby. The story in The Last of Us 2 disappointed me at the end

The people who played TLOU1 and got angry when Joel saved Ellie are missing the ability to have interpersonal empathy and operate more like a bug hive mind with bad relationship with my father syndrome.

Trying to force the player to develop sympathy for the gorilla in the sequel by sabotaging Ellie's personality and Joel's character was narrative stupidity built as a result of weak story telling and promoting a current day message culminating in a limp wrist "ending the cycle of bloodshed" cliche' ".

Nobody got angry at Joel for saving Ellie, we just understand that it was nothing more than a selfish decision on his part and a situation where he's the only one that wins anything.

If anything it's the people who can't understand why other characters would be pissed at Joel that lack empathy and comprehension skills.

As for Ellie's personality, I don't think anyone remains the same as their 14 year old self. Joel's character made sense, he was getting old and the new civilized life made him more trusting/friendly which ended up with him dead. He was already getting soft in part 1 because of Ellie.

>he's the only one that wins anything

You know that Ellie is alive because of him right?

Ah yes you see the morale option here is to let the committee dissect your daughter's brain on a hunch for the good of the people!

Yeah, remember how soft he was becoming when he gunned down an entire hospital to save his daughter?

I like the gameplay Abby gets, especially the monster battles she has, I just don't like her look much. Although I can't say Ellie has really gotten any better looking as she's aged either. I guess in an apocalyptic setting though, one can't be too picky about such things.

The world-building around Abby's story was far better than Ellie's but as far as narrative goes, ellie's had a stronger base line story.

F**K abby, absolutely hate that c**t and hate devs that force us to play her, too bad can't shoot everyone in the head in their base!

The amount of times I killed Abby just to see her die was so satisfying. I just can’t understand how anyone playing through the first game could root for Abby. F***ing hate her so much and no amount of back story feel good sh*t made me feel any differently at the end.

The same ellie that wanted to give her life for a chance at a cure, the ellie that got angry at him for doing it? Ok.

It's literally an apocalypse situation and Ellie could've helped to fix it all. Yes, that literally is the good moral choice.

I understand why he saved her, I would've done the same. But you can't expect characters who couldn't care less about Ellie to forgive Joel for making that decision. From their POV he simply murdered their family/friends and ruined a shot at making progress towards a cure on top of it.

You're asking me if I remember how the guy that started the game as someone who treated her as nothing more than a delivery package ended up risking his life in a pretty dumb fight to save her? Yeah, I do.

With every sentence and point you make, all you're showing is that you have no real arguments . Hell you're showing that you can't even comprehend a story as basic as TLOU. Unlucky for you.

The 1st game is very simplistic. 2nd is much MUCH better.

Ellie and Abby are both very well written and complicated characters.
personally I love Ellie more. but naughty dog had a hard job for making Abby come to life and they did a great job

Ellie couldn't live with had happened to Joel. She said it herself, could't eat, couldn't sleep. Tommy was probably the same way there at the end. People forget that Ellie never got a chance to reconcile with Joel before he died. That part I think made it all worse.

And to the people who don't wish to play as Abby...I really think you should give it a chance. Nobody wins when it comes to revenge, everyone just dies. Is what the story is trying to say I think. So how do you heal when you've been wronged? Joel, I think, saved his soul when he saved Ellie, even though he doomed the rest of the world. That was his "healing."

For Abby, she never got true satisfaction after getting revenge. She still had the nightmares. It wasn't after she saved Lev that she truly began to heal. In this way, her story was a lot like Joel's. I imagine if we ever get a Part III, Ellie will have some kind of "healing" by saving someone else epiphany which would be keeping in line with the story maybe.

Abby is the worst character in the game in decades. I get completely bored with parts of the game when I have to play with her. Not being able to kill her at the beginning of the game is the biggest flaw in the game. I also don't believe that the script for the second part was written by an adult. Already a simple AI would have done a better job of writing the story than what we got. Heavily wasted potential of the game.
