tbh it's personally preference on who u wanna play as i'd say the characters that can't dodge are a little worst but they are still good in their own way
I have and will always choose my weapons and such in games to look cool over performance, so in that regard Abby is the best character, her 80s outfit is peak.
Joel is my favorite because of his magical revolver that can hold like 20 bullets
I think Marlene’s the worst I’ve experienced so far. The whole NEEDING to do the gambit to get resources at the end of an encounter is pretty ♥♥♥♥.
Jesse best, Joel/Tommy/Mel worst

Sorry to necro the thread, but to answer your question, imo Mel is the worst character in the game because her kit revolves around healing and No Return is a high score mode where you don't want to take damage. If Mel's healing is relevant then your run isn't going to be very good. She also only starts with a revolver and 3 bullets so her survivability is sub-par right out of the gate. She's not totally hopeless, I do prefer her to playing Joel/Tommy but that's personal preference. She's probably the worst.

My favorites are Ellie, Joel, Jesse, Marlene
Ellie, Tommy, Joel, Bill and Jesse are top tier.

Mel and Marlene are worst in my opinion. On grounded it's almost always fail when playing as any of them, since you don't want to take damage and gambits are sometimes way too risky to do.

Abby, Lev, Yara and Manny are somewhere in the middle for being avarage.
Joel has been my main. The lack of dodging by Joel, Tommy, and Bill is made by them being melee power houses. Mel seriously is def the worst to me
Never had problem with Abby

Mel was such a weird inclusion I don’t think there is even 1 person that would have been excited to play as her, but I guess they were scraping the bottom of the barrel for characters to play as for Abby’s faction

Meh, she's alright, they definitely should of added Issac though, he oozes aura lmao.
Is there a way to change my character without doing a new run
marlene's rifle is ridiculously strong and her economy bonuses let her go nuts pretty easily. rolling a bad gambit is unfortunate but you can just ignore it if it's too huge a risk, you'll still end up ahead from the substantial econ bonuses the other gambits give.

no other character really brings quite as much to the table
