Who exactly is the real villain in this quest for vengeance?
Is it Eille, who slaughtered countless people on her path for vengeance, including innocent dog Alice and pregnant women Mel and her husband Owen?

or is it Abby, who killed Joel in revenge for her dad jerry the good doc, and also Tommy and Jesse, who i feel sorry for since they had no part in killing Abby friends?

Abby even showed mercy and let Eille live not once but twice.

Oh, you are sooo close to understand the point...
Honestly i feel more empathetic towards Abby as a victim, and think Eille is more of a villain, although i love both characters.
Revenge is a fool's game :abby_tlou_ii::ellie_tlou_ii::rcry:
Cordyceps remains the real villian. Besides that there is no real good or evil. Everyone has their own reasons to fight for and everybody has blood on their hands. There is no "good" or "evil" reason kill....in the end it's all murder.

the whole point of the game is to question your perception of good and bad and bias

In the End, they are all Victims.

I felt forced to fight Abby in the End though. I didnt wanna do it.

They are all broken - traumatized, in their own way, which makes them act differently as a psychologically healthy person.

Not one of the main protagonists is really bad, while not really good either. What they do is already borderline. In Part I, I totally liked Ellie, even after the Steakhouse, but her different cycle in the development of Part II removed that big sympathy.

It's a video game; it's fiction. And, to be honest, I'm sorry for their experience. But I wouldn't be comfortable with a friend like Abby or Ellie, seeing what they're capable of.

For me, they are victims of circumstances.

the villain is the psychology of it. the quest for vengeance itself. if you can grasp that.
For me Abby is clearly the villain. Her father was threatening Joel with the scalpel and had the plan to kill a defenseless child. Marlene gave the order to kill Joel if he tries to save the defenseless child they wanted to kill. Joel acted in self defense and in defense of Ellie’s life. Joel saved Abby’s life. And Abby did not simply kill Joel, she explicitly made his suffering longer and sadistically tortured him to death.

The defenseless child was literally what could possibly save humanity.

Also Joel kills so many people in the first game (who all could be a Joel to somebody) and Ellie also makes Abbys friends suffer - including cilling a pregnant women, therefore basically killing a defenseless child. Even tho Owen did also safe her life btw. So its really not that easy imho

Villain is in the eyes of the beholder. For Ellie it is Abby and WLF, for Abby it is Joel. And I think game is doing great job to emotionally put you in both perspective. From start you are Ellie and you want revenge same as Ellie, because we loved Joel in first game, and you will do horrible things, yeah we can debate that WLF don't give Ellie too much choice to be peaceful, but yeah we as Ellie murdered bunch of people and also innocence dogs.
And then game just flip sides and you start playing as Abby, and me, personally when I played game a first time on PS4, I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hated Abby, but then after playing her part, saw her point of view and that she is not a bad person, but revenge is a ♥♥♥♥♥ and can cloud your mind. And that's why Iove Part II from beginning, because game had a balls to put you in uncomfortable position to show you that all stories has two sides and world is not black and white and in world of Last of Us, everybody can be villain, even your hero.
