No Return Mode
Played the base game on PS5, not the remaster though so it didn't have No Return. Just wondering what that's like to play and how it feels

It feels like playing the regular game but without the story.
So you have a branching series of encounters presented in the usual roguelike fashion where you can choose specific paths which offer different bonuses. Each encounter offers a specific type of challenge such as being able to take out enemies with stealth or a more aggressive approach.

Each encounter you come away with some resources that allow for meta progression of your character and you can unlock a wide range of characters from the game each with a different playstyle.

I would say if you enjoy the combat and encounters in the main game and want more of that then its good fun and offers some replay value.
It's a lot of fun if you like the combat encounters in the game. It's basically just those, but everything is randomized every time you play, with a random arena from the main game, and an enemy faction (WLF, Infected, Rattlers, Seriphites). And you can buy and upgrade your weapons in between arenas. Finish all 8 levels and you fight one of the bosses from the main game.

Cranking up the difficulty to Survival / Grounded makes every encounter very tense, and really shines when the enemies are smarter and deadlier, since it forces you to use all your resources wisely. Each encounter also has challenges to complete (like get 3 headshots) to get more upgrades / weapons in a run, which will help take down the boss.

You can also play as most of the characters from the main game, and each one has a different starting weapon and different unlockable perks. So it's kinda fun to play encounters as Joel, or Marlene, etc.

It's basically a horde mode, you tackle waves of enemies and you have "gambits" to complete to unlock extra ingame currency to buy new weapons.

When you complete x runs, you unlock the next character in the roster to do it all again with.

But it gets boring quickly, your replayability is most likely going to come from additional playrhroughs of the story than a mode thats largely a tacked on addition.

That was my biggest worry, but that makes sense. Thanks
