Nobody ever said Joel was good.

If you notice though, it was Abby's moronic idiot of a father who grabbed a blade and rushed at Joel.

So it was her moronic idiot of a father who basically forced Joel to open fire in self defense. If he really cared about saving humanity, he would have backed off and let Joel take Ellie.

After all, he's supposedly the only human left alive who could possibly create a cure, and he decided to throw his life away by trying to attack a dude who is pointing a gun at him.

He could have chosen life and kept working towards a cure. Who knows, perhaps they would have found another immune person, or perhaps Ellie would have returned to them on her own after she got older and learned the truth.

Abby's father basically committed suicide in that hospital room. Thus he is the true villain of the story.

Fantastic post!
Joel had to kill the doctor whether he wanted to or not; he would've much preferred just to walk out. It was also pointed out in the aftermath of the firefly's schism that in the chief
researcher's opinion [on a recording] that trying to find a cure was a fools errand. Who was
right? There was also recorded evidence at the facility where Ellie was that "we just need
one more subject" over and over. No matter how many subjects died it was never enough,
just one more. I never got the impression they were going to get the cure; they had already
killed numerous immunes to find it. This is fiction but probably the best way would have been selective breeding; an immune mother with an immune father. So think
about how many precious immune person's lives had been wasted.

Thank you!

I knew that I had found something back when I first played the game on it's console release years ago that referenced the other immune people they had found and killed without getting any closer to a cure.

I think they released an update to remove that item from the game. I haven't been able to find it on the PC version.

No, it is in the pc version; at least when I got it 'cause that's what I have. And you're quite
welcome also. If it's not there now it was changed since I last played it.

Utilitarianism says Joel is the bad guy.

Personally I believe no one was in the wrong, what happened, happened.

LOL yeah, they should all stand down as a madman has killed everyone in the hospital
Abby's cool and tough, but I still enjoy playing as Ellie more because of her everlasting switchblade :Lacerator:

But that’s wrong though, if you actually read the collectible the game makes it very clear Ellie was a unique case the other subjects were infected without an immunity. In the collectible you’re talking about the doctor compares finding Ellie to the discovery of penicillin. I’m very happy to be proven wrong with direct quotes but I’m 100% sure I’m right at this point lol

And the doctor tried to stop Joel because he was going to take the world’s salvation, the fact he tried to stand up to this clearly more deadly man that could easily kill Jim was an act of bravery

Also, Joel could easily knock Jerry out but chose to kill him instead. Whether it was in the heat of the moment or not is irrelevant; Jerry was innocent and Abby as his daughter had every right to kill him.
