Oh so it's a specific timer? Do you know if it require some settings toggle on or some specific keybind assignments to make it doable on keyboard/mouse?
Sometimes when running you hit prone and she dives forward to the ground in one smooth motion. This makes it super effective for diving behind cover.
However most of the time when you're running and you hit prone she just stops and drops down right where she is.
It's annoying not being able to predict what she will do.
So far I've beaten Moderate through Grounded difficulty modes, but I'm halfway through Grounded + and have definitely done my best sneaks in it so far. I snuck through all of the hospital first floor as Ellie, and only tossed a bottle just before opening the door to find Nora.
I also snuck though much of the part just before that with Scars, killing a minimal amount of them. I'm not even using resources a lot to top off my crafted items. Usually I have on average 1 of each item crafted, often no medkits crafted, but am often full up on resources except after a boss fight.
Grounded NG+ DOES throw some unexpected challenges at you, like waves of Runners and Clickers in that fight in the hotel before getting to the Bloater, but having all weapons and skills maxed helps a lot. The bow maxed when laying prone close range is da bomb for taking out Scars. I got all but one of my arrows back too!
Swapping to kb+m, for some reason the sprint input seems to get messed up, causing you to not start sprinting as you get it which prevents you from doing the dive when you do the hold input.
I couldn't find any way to do it.
For the other people, prone diving just requires you to be holding down crouch while sprinting, its pretty easy to let go early and end up just crouching, or letting go of sprint early and then doing the normal prone.
Just have to hold both for a bit longer than you might expect.
