Why do people taking revenge think it will solve anything?
They never seem to ask themselves: "And now what? Do I feel better? Did it bring back the people I lost? Did it fill the void and hole in my heart? Did I change anything? What did I even accomplish?" It seems like revenge at that moment is solely motivated by rage and anger. But those are fleeting emotions. People tend to be more realistic and reasonable when they finally calm down and actually think it through.

So it amazes me that anyone can even hold a grudge long enough to actually see it through (I'm aware of the "Revenge is a dish best served cold" trope but even that is still falling into the same trap). They never ask themselves what they intend to do afterwards. Maybe they THINK they'll get closure, but only the DEAD get closure. The living do NOT.

Congratulations you just realized the point of the game.
Congrats from me as well. If your really interested how those mindsets are cultivated culturally in general and very specifically in the game:

Because emotions overrule logic, and it’s a very human shortcoming. It provides an extremely poignant palette for confrontational human storytelling.
Revenge does solve everything, if done properly, If they killed Ellie at the Chalet and did what Mel suggested by cutting loose ends. Story would've ended there. Abby gets her revenge and everyone lives happily ever after.

You're just giving the "bike cuck" argument with more words.
The desire for justice is innate to being human.

It's not about revenge, it's about justice. It's the same reason we live in a society of laws. The desire for justice is innate to being human.

Justice was served when Abby killed Joel
that is the point of the game. To stand up for yourself, your emotions and feelings; and in the end it is purification through your deeds
The real ending should have been Ellie leaving both of them tied up on the wood logs and killing the little girl while abby had to watch

How is it fair ? Joel killed Abby's father first, she killed Joel for it and that's it, Ellie went too far and killed everyone, if you think hard about it and remove your bias towards Joel, Ellie and Joel were the bad guys.

Abby's father tried to kill Ellie though. By gutting the little girl in front of abby, the circle of revenge is completed.

Abby father -> ellie
joel -> abby father
abby -> joel
ellie -> little asian girl

balanced, as all things should be

This is where details and circumstances complicate things. Suppose that right after Joel killed the doctor some other Fireflies came into the room and shot him in the head. When Ellie woke she would have been devastated, but after learning what happened she'd almost certainly not have gone on a life altering revenge mission to kill them. Details matter. The way Ellie experienced Joel's death matters.

Joel suffered the typical trolley problem: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_problem

I don't blame Joel. Loosing your daughter twice must be horrific. Ellie is torn by hate till the end. But Abby changed her mind through the story and she grew by the end.

Have you even played the game ? You have no idea wtf you're talking about bozo. Ellie -> Little Asian girl? Ellie killed Jordan, the Asian girl, Nora, Owen, Mel and Tommy Killed Manny, so if you apply your logic properly by number of deaths, Ellie committed a genocide compared to Abby, and No, Abby's dad wasnt gonna gut Ellie, she just wasn't gonna survive a brain surgery. Also, ELLIE WANTED THAT.

no need to be so upset and hurl insults. obviously only meaningful deaths matter. abby didn't care about mel or any of the other randos, same with ellie and everyone abby killed.
