Pregnant Lady in a Warzone
Abby: They actually cleared you for active duty?
Mel: Barely.
Abby: And Owen’s ok with this?
Mel: Why would it be up to Owen?

So let’s get some opinions on the segment with Mel out in active duty while being very pregnant. Did people think this was stupid? Is it fine? And let’s get some opinions on Mel’s character while we’re at it.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.. Maybe the logic is if she's well enough to carry and shoot a gun she's well enough to be out and about.

She's an interesting character. Replaying it now for the third time. Enjoy all the characters just the same.

Zero risk perception, that's it. Even being a medic, so stupid :nerdduck:

Nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about Mels baby - she is a medic and a soldier and there is a war going on. They always risk losing her when she does her job pregnant or not...but if she is not out there they WILL lose soldiers they would not otherwise.

One word: unrealistic. 99% of the women wouldn't do it, ignoring the fact that she would be a burden, not help.

Abby said Mel doesn't need to do it and Mel also said she was barely given permission, so it doesn't seem like WLF being pragmatic. is the main purpose to parallel to Dina and how she didn't want to be deadweight
stupid strong woman push theme thats all this game is pushing SJW themes in your face. No pregnant woman should be in a warzone thats pretty stupid, into the spiderverse did the same thing having one of the spider women be pregnant, umm hello a pregnant woman cannot zip around and be spider man yes women are amazing for being able to give birth we all know this we dont need fictional characters doing stupid things while pregnant:steamfacepalm:
"into the spiderverse did the same thing having one of the spider women be pregnant,"
I got a feeling that any version of spiderman is not quite as sensitive as normal people to harm

Tell that to Anya Oliwa-Blazkowicz :wwzgrenade:
Very pregnant
Not only did she go out for active duty, she was going in what was described as the most dangerous time ever for the team with scar attacks at an all-time high and of course the ongoing Apocalypse. Five minutes in and she was already belly-flopping in the back of a truck whilst being shot at.

Incredibly out of touch writing that actually goes against the grain of championing strong women as was intended by Druckmann.

I didn't give it a second thought.

As for Mel as a character, she seemed realistic as in I could imagine this person existing and behaving like this, but she's the least remarkable of all the 'main' characters in the game.

In retrospect, the two factions wiped each other out, so not going out probably wouldn't have helped her much. The 'smart' thing to do, would be stay put, but the only thing that would have kept her alive in hindsight, was to leave the WLF.

As for her character, she simply didn't want to abandon her team during wartime, she had some very strong bonds with those people. On the subject of whether it was stupid or unrealistic, she did die.
This isn't your typical warzone though... This is post apocalypse. You fight to survive, pregnant or not. While regrowing the population is important, it's still another mouth to feed in a world of limited resources, so looking out for yourself and those around you is a priority in this world as well. It's not like decisions like this are easy.

and her faction is not nearly strapped enough to send a pregnant lady such as herself out into the field. I say this as a fan of the game, it is an example of poor writing that requires multiple characters to act in a way that you wouldn't expect and them all to temporarily have there iq hit room temperature levels.
