Can't pick up Assult Rifle

Hi, well really enjoying Part 2 but have an issue in regards to picking up the assault rifle sitting on a table in the round communications building i think on the 2nd floor. When I approach the weapon or the ammo beside it is says "full". Now in this case I would assume I would have to drop a weapon to add this one. I have searched and cannot find anything about dropping and equipping a new weapon. Previous weapons I have added of course using "E". In some articles it says use "Y" or "X" or hold this or hold that, lots of suggestions but nothing works. I can't see it as a timing thing as it is being offered to take. Or when it does show "full" it also shows a picture of a rifle. I think that's telling me I need to drop it. Or do I need to add a slot somehow? Any suggestions or insight would be grateful.

Sorry, but you don't get an assault rifle in this game. Ellie has the shotgun and bolt action rifle only. The rifle you're talking about is a semi-auto rifle that the WLF uses, which shares the ammo type with the bolt action rifle that ellie carries. The "full" message just means you've maxed out on ammo for the bolt action rifle.
