Backup Save Folder Help
TLoU2 PC - Backup Saves

I’m dealing with the progress save bug at the moment and lost around 8 hours, but I found a save in the game’s save directory’s “backup” folder that would get me a few hours back.

My question is does anyone know how to use saves found in that backup folder (the file extension “.0Abak” followed by a number)? I’ve tried deleting all other folders in the saved games folder except that backup folder/file, as well as pasting the file into the SAVEFILE0A and SAVEFILE0P folders separately and simultaneously, but it’s either resulted in the game’s progress totally resetting or the same disappointing checkpoint that’s 8 hours behind.

Also, I removed the backups extension to match the USR-DATA file found in the SAVEFILE0A folder per a guide I found linked in a similar post, but when the game launches it still pulls the older autosave back. I think it’s related to the params file also found in the folder which lists the old checkpoint info, but if I delete that and try, I’m only left with the option to start a new game.
i don't wanna mess with my save games rn, but you have to deal with steam cloud too.

you could try to start the game. not load anything. while it's running you replace the savefile with the backup file and then close the game and reload. part 1 synced the steam cloud data when the game was closed, iirc.

make a full xtra backup of all the save data before you try that. :)

Whelp, good news and bad news: good news is the backup was working all along. Bad news is the backup save was as far back as the checkpoint was in the first place.

I ended up trying another backup relatively close to the latest one I was trying, loaded it in-game, and was at a different location than the previous load, but in the same encounter.

I feel sick. I played until 4 AM and lost six hours.

yeah they really need to hot fix this on Monday...
While the patch is "on progress" I found in reddit a fix (Not exactly) but it works. Very simple: just play off-line. Once you have finished your gaming time, back to on-line status IN ORDER to sync all the data.
REMEMBER: Just start the game with off-line (I think there´s a problem with Steam´s cloud sync, but I´m not sure and the fault doesn´t matter right now from who, meanwhile this fix works)

Hey, how were you able to load your backups in game?
May or may not help, but it at least helps with a number of old games: remove Documents from OneDrive to a normal folder.

Wrong

"Improvements to autosaving when the Windows Documents folder is located on OneDrive or a similar cloud service."

Well-well, look who is wrong now.
