Yasuke was a real guy. He was a real, black bushi. Maybe not a samurai, we don't know for sure, but he was certainly in the employ of a daimyo and fought with the equipment of a samurai, alongside samurai. Probably an ashigaru, but 98% chance you couldn't explain the difference between an ashigaru and hatamoto in the 1550's.
