The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered

Vis statistikker:
Sony will either stop porting to PC or move to day one
If they look at how their games are doing on PC, and they do, They'll conclude that when they first started porting to PC, their games were doing big numbers due to the novelty.
Today we understand that those are just old games and not many people care.

They wanna do big numbers again, bring back the novelty, and that can only come with games being fresh.

They either move to day one and start making real money, or the sales from old games ported to PC are just gonna pay the cost of porting it and they'll eventually stop.

If you asked me, the rumored god of war ser in Greece is going to kick this door down.

PS: 100%ed Last of Us 1 but not gonna buy this, I didn't like the direction they went, I'm posting this thread here cause it's their most recent game on PC, is likely to gain more traction and I was looking on SteamDB to see some numbers and decided to speak my mind. ( not that it really matters, tho )

Curious how their most successful games on PC were the ones that started this Sony trend and their only day one on PC, with the day one being their most successful by a long, long mile...

Given how deceptive concurrent player numbers are, I'd need to see some reasonably sourced sales data to make a call either way. Sony do seem to have adjusted their expectations (Spideman had a pretty phenomenal port, while TLOU1/2 have had relatively bad ports)

All of that said, I expect Sony would sell more units if they released on PC day one, but that would further draw appeal from the PS store, where they make more money from sales of first parties and make money from subsequent third party sales.

I'm not sure what to expect in the coming months. Even with specific sales/revenue numbers the calculations wouldn't be trivial (and often require comparing a measurable number to a potential estimate).

We can only hope they do for Last of us Part 3. I'm done double dipping, and have sold my PS5. But that one year wait will be hard! Same with GTAVI

i believe theyre on record as mainly wanting to drive investment in sony 1st party IPs so people will move into the playstation ecosystem to get day one access.

regardless, i think the economics of porting already finished and profitable games to PC to get the type of numbers we see on these titles makes them profitable, even if they don't do gangbusters. there's no doubt in my mind that all of these ports have made money, even the ones with underwhelming performance like uncharted 4

They also sell on epic but i think steamDB is a good source. Sure more people than the all time peak could've bought it but starfield made it past 240k and it was on GP.

Sure for some games, 30k+ peak is a successful game but we are talking AAA Sony games.

According to Shawn Layden it started as "an entry drug" ( not actual quote ), but after their sale numbers at the time, Jin Ryan changed things and PC became an actual market, that is why they bouught Nixxes.

I agree that even their underwhelming games possibly made money but theirs numbers are going down with every now port and companies like MS and Sony don't want money, they want ALL the money.

They need to start porting games people actually want, like the Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus re-makes, Bloodborne etc.. These cinematic slop titles are what Soysisters buy the consoles for, and what people mature into PC gaming to avoid.

That is a fact, Demon’s souls, Bloodborne and Shadow of the Colossus I would buy in a heart beat.
