TLDW - It's a bloated vanity project with a plot and character writing that doesn't make sense riding the coat tails of the narratively superior first game.

Most of the forum and reviews on Steam for this game are from other fanboys who will defend this slop. I'll tell you how well that's going. 23k peak players. Dragon Age: The Veilgard peaked at 89k. People already know the story, how it ends, how a lot of people don't like it, and how many don't like the forced Woke messaging littered throughout the game.

Objectively, it's a bit of a piss poor port kinda like the first game with gameplay that hasn't aged in a over decade from other Sony walking simulators.

Campaigning HARD for those jesters.

. I feel that most of the people playing this right now are "the target audience" since fans from the first game already know not to play this one.

The game might look pretty but it lacks in story and character that made it such a masterpiece in the first part.
What a weird contradictory statement.. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:
I'm here and double dipped from console *because* of how much more than the original I liked it and the better storytelling/character beats.
To each their own.

One of my friends hated it and was like "It's practically torture porn. You just watch Ellie get the ♥♥♥♥ beat out of her and there's no hope. I hated it."

I was like "That is the best advertisement for a game I have ever heard, I am buying it immediately."

Grimdark makes everything better.

It was moreso the psychological element and how godamn stubborn Ellie was being among the themes of revenge and acceptance that tore me up and made me hate Ellie/Love Abby by the end, but yeah in either case it was refreshing to see a narrative that doesn't go the sunshine and rainbows route, and really make you feel horrible things about our 'hero'.

This game (which full disclosure I adore, and have completed multiple times on PS4/5, Grounded difficulty, Platinum trophy etc etc) has always struck me as a real seperation point amongst gamers.

Gloves off here, I'm gonna be as brutal as I want.

The people that don't like it; I don't think they are very smart people. The people who can't even respect it as a piece of art...they are just outright dumb people.

Not liking the narrative because of attachment to a character is one thing, but not even having the objectivity to appreciate the craftsmanship on display and the audacity to be so bold in the face of such a potential blowback is quite the other.

The problem as well is that we still also have (even all these years later) a very large contingent of the vocal haters who have NEVER even played the title. They watched their favourite content creator hating on the game (multiple videos about it at the time making them $$$ on YouTube..... natch) and decided that they would then and forever adopt that viewpoint. No critical thinking, no "I'll see for myself."

Really smooth brain behaviour...which unfortunately this amazing title has been mired in since its release and continues to this day.

Finally, someone who understand narrative structure.

No, people aren't paying $50 for a badly realized revenge story that's trying to emotionally manipulate and force us to feel sorry for the current studio head's Mary Sue villain that killed off our favorite characters.

Cope and seethe.

It is the necessary completion of Joel's redemption arc, and then Ellie's journey through Hell where she learns to be better than Joel.

It's an excellent continuation of the story and completes it nicely.
Joel's redemption ark?
Lol
Lmao even
Masterpiece? No

It’s still a well written story compared to most video game narratives but it falls victim to poorly written segments and tropes. You could probably say that the first games narrative was so good that any sequel would’ve been worse by default.

fun gameplay ♥♥♥♥♥♥ story, especially with the whole point and theme of the game but the gameplay ever so slightly goes against the whole forgiveness thing considering you spend however many hours long the game is genociding your way through america to get to muscle woman's party (which includes a pregnant woman too)

Also likes to focus on romance a lot which immediately turned me off because western romance is ♥♥♥♥♥. The familial bond between Joel and Ellie is what made the first Tlou so good. Removing that in exchange for a le ebin revenge plotline was stupid. Doesn't even let you take your revenge and forces you to le forgive because I'm not le same and want to end le cycle.

As a narrative, I prefer Part I, but that didn't stop me from buying Part II.
