It's an excellent continuation of the story and completes it nicely.
It's kind of polarizing. Will really come down to your own preferences.

Most of the forum and reviews on Steam for this game are from other fanboys who will defend this slop. I'll tell you how well that's going. 23k peak players. Dragon Age: The Veilgard peaked at 89k. People already know the story, how it ends, how a lot of people don't like it, and how many don't like the forced Woke messaging littered throughout the game.
Objectively, it's a bit of a piss poor port kinda like the first game with gameplay that hasn't aged in a over decade from other Sony walking simulators.
What's that mate? oh let me stop you there, Sure my wife's boyfriend put me up to this because I'm a woke cuckster...? is that right, is that how you insecure, peak player counting, internet patrolling, tough guys put it? Actually, I don't care. Have a good day bro, and remember, It's all the women that reject you that have the problem, not you.
I don't think he has an axe to grind, he just doesn't understand narrative structure. Most people don't because they never study it or maybe study it for one unit in a high school English class.
So these people are absolutely sure they're right based on the Dunning-Kruger effect.
I went to school for Creative Writing (my parents are well off and I didn't need a real degree), so I am constantly amazed by the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ takes most people have on narrative structure.
Joel's death as the end of his redemption arc is like story telling 101.
Ellie's "journey through Hell" for her to choose mercy at the end is also story telling 101.
The difficulty of her journey and her righteous reason for killing make her decision not to kill all the more powerful.
Because a game is a game. Sony is just a corporation like any other.
When this came out on playstation this game got a lot of negative reviews, mind you this is before the whole woke/anti-woke drama that is happening online right now. I feel that most of the people playing this right now are "the target audience" since fans from the first game already know not to play this one.
The game might look pretty but it lacks in story and character that made it such a masterpiece in the first part.
I'm here and double dipped from console *because* of how much more than the original I liked it and the better storytelling/character beats.
To each their own.
