The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered

Poor physics & outdated visuals
When this game runs at 4K on maximum settings, the shaders look outdated, and the animations feel slightly off. For a title of this scale, it’s surprising how much attention to detail is missing—no footprints in snow or mud, and the physics feel underwhelming. I checked what engine it’s running on, and it turns out to be some in-house, self-maintained monster that’s been modified just to support DLSS.

Honestly, if they’d used Unreal Engine 5 instead, the result could’ve been far more immersive and visually polished. The facial animations and overall physics come across like they were thrown together by a work experience kid, which is disappointing for a game that should be setting standards, not cutting corners.

Oh right—well, it’s 2025, and developers have access to an abundance of advanced technology and powerful game engines that are readily available. There’s really no excuse anymore. Saying the game was designed for the PS4 isn’t a valid argument at this point. We’re two full hardware generations past that, and the industry has already proven that cross-gen development doesn’t have to mean sacrificing quality. If anything, it highlights a lack of ambition or care. Modern tools exist to scale across platforms—so designing to the limitations of decade-old hardware in 2025 feels like a cop-out.

yeah, the game looks really good only in few cinematics and (probably) 25% of the levels.. everything else is just smeared asset mush with very low details.. :steamfacepalm:
🤡

No points for you, bad bait
You are right but this is a playstation game. It is being ported to PC. It would be nice if they made a remake but it looks great to me.

You know what I’ll bite, you’re almost certainly just a bad troll but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

All those things you mentioned require the game's engine to be able to scale in that way, in the first place, no tool exists to magically scale a PS4 engine to a platform it was never designed to scale to. That requires an engine swap.

I have foot prints in the snow. I think that game looks great on Ultra and plays just fine to
I play with everything maxed at 4k DLAA and it looks amazing. Weak bait and you don’t even own the game.

I'm so glad I don't have crazy unrealistic graphical expectations for games today. Imagine thinking this game looked so outdated that you had to post 2 paragraphs about it. People expecting games to look like real life and have vanilla Minecraft performance.

buddy they would have to remake the whole game from the ground up if they wanted to use UE5. and fortunately, i hardly care as much as you so im glad they didnt, else would take 3 more years for it finally be ported.
Shrug.. game looks great. I’m having a a blast.
