Edit: I've now played 3.5 hours of the game and have, unfortunately, had my gameplay impacted by the severe stuttering. It boggles my mind how any devs would find the current approach preferable to pre-compiling shaders. Yes, the shader compilation wait was long for TLOU Part 1, but at least it didn't affect gameplay. This is really a shame. TLOU 2 is normally very immersive, but my immersion is suffering due to the frequent stuttering.
But... if your CPU is throttling because of shader comp, then you need to get better cooling. that is not on the game, that's on your terrible cooling.
I agree that this laptop cooling solution is not ideal, but a game still shouldn’t run at constant 90% CPU usage like its happening
Again, I agree, it should compile the shaders at the main menu like Part 1. It took a super long time so I can kind of get why they wanted a better solution, but this was like using dirt as a baindaid.
how slow pc do you have if your game compiling shaders 3-4 hours in? lol then it's time for an upgrade, compiling shaders doesent take that long dude, and they does not start compiling randomly at random places through a whole game
Model: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024)
CPU: Core Ultra 9 185H
GPU: RTX 4080 12GB
NPU: Intel AI Boost 43TOPS
RAM: 32GB DDR5 7467 MT/s
SSD: 2TB
Screen: ROG Nebula HDR OLED 240hz G-Sync
How hard can it be to admit that compiling shaders during gameplay is a terrible practice? So many engines have shader compilation stutters and everybody gets angry about it. And still TLOU devs decided to compile them during gameplay on purpose. That’s insane
no it doesent lol, i havn't had a single wierd behavior for the almost 4 hours i have played, it told me it compiled shaders in a loading screen and after that it have worked smooth like butter, even first game didn't even compile shaders all the time
If you don't believe me, you can watch DF show it. https://youtu.be/Z0IoZxiv1i0
