15.000 players, anti-woke people have failed
Hey everyone,

I’ve been following the whole Last of Us 2 PC release situation with a lot of interest, and I’ve seen the anti-woke backlash really gain traction. Some folks have been vocal about their desire to boycott the game due to the themes of the story and its characters, particularly the inclusion of strong female leads and LGBTQ+ representation. I’m all for personal choices and standing up for what you believe in, but the outcome of this boycott is something I think we need to talk about.

Here’s the thing: despite all the noise and the fervor, it’s clear that the boycott isn’t working. The Last of Us 2 is selling incredibly well on PC. It’s clear that many of the people who claimed they’d boycott the game still ended up purchasing it, or at the very least, didn’t follow through on their protest.

It’s a bit of a bittersweet realization because, while I respect everyone’s right to protest and disagree with the game, the reality is that it highlights something a bit more personal. It’s not just about this game; it’s about people trying to deny or avoid the reality that change is happening in the gaming world. The characters, the story, the diverse representation—it’s not going away. And instead of fighting against it with anger and rejection, maybe it’s time we just acknowledge that this is what gaming looks like now. The Last of Us 2 is not just a game, it’s a symbol of how far we’ve come in terms of inclusivity in storytelling.

If you didn’t like the game, that’s okay. You don’t have to enjoy every piece of media. But this whole idea of a boycott was a lot of wasted energy for a lot of people, especially when the industry is so much bigger than one game. There are still plenty of other titles that might better align with their preferences, and that’s the beauty of a diverse industry—we all get to choose the stories that resonate with us.

In the end, let’s remember that we all have the right to enjoy different things. But we also have to remember that change isn’t something we can avoid just because it’s inconvenient. Instead of protesting against it, maybe we could try embracing it. The Last of Us 2 is a great game for what it stands for, but it also gives us a chance to reflect on what we’re all really afraid of when we say “woke.”

Maybe we need to stop boycotting and start understanding.

My only complaint are the high requirements for GPU in order to enjoy the game in it's full 60 fps glory, but I guess that's the price you have to pay to enjoy photorealistic games we have nowaday.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

They're called "gooners" or "SQWs (status quo warriors)".

They invaded our hobby in the 2010s and are very dedicated to ensuring games have underage panty shots.

A lot of it is due to anime becoming ♥♥♥♥ after the 80s and 90s, leading to an entire generation of gooners raised on ♥♥♥♥♥♥ anime.

I really couldnt care less about the whatever going on but 15k on release? Theres almost 300,000 playing schedule 1 at the moment. Hell theres usually 10-20k on 7 days to die at any moment a game thats ten years old so chill.
I mean, if I remember correctly most people were just mad that the game treated Joel the way it did. Few people could care less if Ellie was lesbian or whatever. The story is just a lot more hackneyed and forced than the first game, and seemingly on behalf of very trite 'messages' that the writers thought were way cleverer than they actually are.

I mean, it's still a game worth playing if you like 3rd person action / stealth games, but I fully understand why a ton of people were pissed at the store / characters / writing after how excellent the first game was in those areas.

I am anti-woke but I don't boycott games because I don't have a hive mind, meaning I don't function with a brain of an 8 yr old who is susceptible to influences by internet peer pressure.

I've been gaming since the 80s kid. This is my hobby. You guys are the tourists in my realm.

Also been tabletop gaming since the 80s, so also my hobby.

I am likely older than most gooner's fathers.

My hobby didn't include anime *****try until the gooners came.

Because if you read the rest of what I said instead of reading half the sentence, then you'd be able to wrap your head around my argument.

just so you know this is probably a rage bait. And even if it is true (i mean the person who wrote this really meant it (i should have said chatgpt who wrote this)) The 15-20k isnt that much. Even gow ragnarok which didnt sell awesome on pc for some reason had launched its first day with 30 k people.

it's ok if you don't want to answer. Just doesn't make sense.

I have an answer. I don't equivocate a game to what Neil did to damage the story. This game has more to offer if you are able to look past it .

Yeah, but how do you express your anti wokeness, that you yourself claimed you have, when you play woke games ?

How do you express yourself as woke or anti-woke? They do it all the time in Hollywood, in California as a general state and over internet. Well if you want to talk internet, nexusmod is a textbook example of what had turned woke, twitter/X shadowboxers are another great example of either side arguing over each other and condemning either side. But getting back to this game, I stand by what I said earlier.
