HDR is broken?
Anyone else have weird washed colors when they turn HDR on?
I'm using proper HDR mini led display and have it turned on in windows. Didn't have such an issue with first game.

works fine for me. You probably need to calibrate HDR in windows using "windows HDR calibration" software. Its free in MS store.

Hi, I also had strange colors in the intro video where Joel talks to his brother. It looked like they both had green and blue streaks in their hair. When I then got on his horse with Joel, I saw strange circles around him, all over the screen in different colors. It was like a constant lens effect. As if you were looking through a prism. Sorry, my English isn't that good, I don't know how to explain it. Was it like that for you too?

I played around with the settings a bit, including deactivating HDR, and luckily it went away. Otherwise, it would have been unplayable for me. I think we'll have to wait for a patch or maybe the next graphics card driver. Or play without HDR, it looks good anyway.

Yeah also had this problem, so turned it away in beginning. Currently I'm just struggling to find proper brightness and contrast settings I guess. Not having gamma presets doesn't help.

Do you have an Nvidia GPU? Make sure RTX hdr is not turned on globally.

Same issue here.. Colors look way washed out and brightness bar in the game setting shows a certain degree of black levels are crushed.

Also noticeable when switching back and forth between desktop and game (going from bright to washed out colors).

Update (issue resolved on it's own):

After playing again after reboot it seemed to fixed itself?

Update 2

Issue is back again, also I notice when using TAB (inventory key) it seems like it's switching between washed out colors and proper HDR?

Furthermore I could trigger the game to display proper HDR while running a YouTube video on the background (which automatically uses RTX HDR video enhancements)?

Kind of a strange issue if you ask me? Furthermore it seemed this was also the case after my first update, didn't notice I had a video tab still open.

HDR looks decent on my LG OLED, have you created a HDR profile in display settings?

I have a Samsung QD-OLED panel calibrated with HDR tool. Other HDR games look stunning especially Ori which is a great HDR showcase.

Like I stated in my previous posts sometimes I get to trigger proper HDR in the game (using the TAB key) but as soon as I leave the inventory brightness and colors look dull again. This is especially noticeable when looking at the sun going from almost blinding to very dull.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I can also trigger it by increasing the volume in Windows. 4090 and 566.36 drivers

In my case using 572.83 drivers and Windows 11 23h2.
At the moment I have to disable HDR because this looks less dull than HDR :(.

Furthermore I must say it takes ages to toggle between HDR and no HDR?

As far as I have noticed HDR is only bad when the game window is in focus (it seems to be overriding Windows HDR / has it's own HDR implementation). When the game window is out of focus and another Windows window is in focus the game brightness is a LOT better and less dull.

Hope they will fix this bug soon, it would be a bummer that I can't use HDR before reaching the end.

Found a fix!

Hi guys, I also posted my HDR problem on Reddit. Luckly someone found a solution to this specific HDR problem!

Gp tp the game .exe's properties and enabled "Use legacy display ICC colour management" under the Compatibility tab. I did this for all 3 exe files (launcher.exe, tlou-ii.exe, tlou-ii-l.exe).

After doing this HDR finally worked properly :D

I have a working solution since the first Spider-Man. That's how old all this is. This is a typical broken Nixxes HDR. Usually, you have to persistently pick a working value of luminance in the settings of their game. You have to poke the slider for a long time until HDR turns on correctly. But in this game, since they made it together with Iron Galaxy, there is no such setting in the game.

So you have to go to The Windows Registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Naughty Dog\The Last of Us Part II\Graphics - HDRMaxNits and set the working value yourself.
The working values I found (enter in decimal):
445708
603013
950373

There is no difference between them in this game and they all work correctly. Enter one of them in HDRMaxNits in Windows Registry and you will have HDR working correctly in the Nixxes game.

Thanks, my issue has been resolved with the legacy ICC, but with your fix the legacy ICC shouldn't be needed :) Thanks!
