HDR is broken?
Anyone else have weird washed colors when they turn HDR on?
I'm using proper HDR mini led display and have it turned on in windows. Didn't have such an issue with first game.

Hi guys, I also posted my HDR problem on Reddit. Luckly someone found a solution to this specific HDR problem!

Gp tp the game .exe's properties and enabled "Use legacy display ICC colour management" under the Compatibility tab. I did this for all 3 exe files (launcher.exe, tlou-ii.exe, tlou-ii-l.exe).

After doing this HDR finally worked properly :D

I wanted to test this, but the "Use legacy display ICC color management" option isn't available under the Compatibility tab. Am I doing something wrong?

Right-click on the .exe file, select Properties, and then the Compatibility tab.
I can set different Windows versions and a few other options, but the "Use legacy..." option isn't there. I'm still using Windows 10.

Hmm in my case I'm using Windows 11, though you can still try LittleUA's solution on page 1 (registry edits).

So you have to go to The Windows Registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Naughty Dog\The Last of Us Part II\Graphics - HDRMaxNits and set the working value yourself.
The working values I found (enter in decimal):
445708
603013
950373

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately I don't know anything about the Windows registry. Before I do anything stupid, I'd rather leave it as it is. The game runs great for me, but unfortunately without HDR. I just wanted to test it out.

I have a working solution since the first Spider-Man. That's how old all this is. This is a typical broken Nixxes HDR. Usually, you have to persistently pick a working value of luminance in the settings of their game. You have to poke the slider for a long time until HDR turns on correctly. But in this game, since they made it together with Iron Galaxy, there is no such setting in the game.

There is no difference between them in this game and they all work correctly. Enter one of them in HDRMaxNits in Windows Registry and you will have HDR working correctly in the Nixxes game.
Thanks for sharing. This method fixed it for me.

Its literally fake HDR which doesnt have color or luminance data to work with.

Thank you so much! I was expecting the same problem as in the Spider Man and Tsushima games with tuning brigthness point by point but there was no such option. Finally I can enjoy this game with working HDR <3

Would you please elaborate the algorithm used for these values?

is it:

MaxNit x 1000

?

so if my display has a max nit of 700 nits, would it be 700000? or is the value calculated differently?

Same issue here.. Colors look way washed out and brightness bar in the game setting shows a certain degree of black levels are crushed.

Also noticeable when switching back and forth between desktop and game (going from bright to washed out colors).

Update (issue resolved on it's own):

After playing again after reboot it seemed to fixed itself?

Update 2

Issue is back again, also I notice when using TAB (inventory key) it seems like it's switching between washed out colors and proper HDR?

Furthermore I could trigger the game to display proper HDR while running a YouTube video on the background (which automatically uses RTX HDR video enhancements)?

Kind of a strange issue if you ask me? Furthermore it seemed this was also the case after my first update, didn't notice I had a video tab still open.
me too, not just using TAB,but also middle click
Enabling the legacy ICC setting will make GSync not work

1. If you just enter simple 700000 (yes, that's 700 nits) then HDR WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY in any Nixxes game! I got these numbers from their other games where I found the working values that were closest to what I needed, because in those games the settings menu allowed me to do this. The values have to be specific for some reason, otherwise HDR will be broken.

2. In The Last of Us Part II there is NO DIFFERENCE between these 3 values I gave. All 3 of them simply unlock full unlimited HDR in this game. The important thing is that they work. As for the rest of the games from Nixxes, yes, these values adjust luminance in them.

3. Aren't you all tired of Nixxes releasing games with broken HDR all the time? And they got ALMOST ALL NEW SONY GAMES on PC by now! Is there anything we can do? They have a feedback option on their site.

That fixed my HDR in game and other titles like HFW! You're a legend mate!

works fine for me. You probably need to calibrate HDR in windows using "windows HDR calibration" software. Its free in MS store.
RTX HDR works much better than the integrated Windows HDR imo.
in mi case looks awful in a samsung hdr and gsync panel, super ultra over saturated in red

Something is wrong in your setup, looks great on my LG OLED, no reds.
Try Stalker 2 in HDR to see a real over saturation in red (and crushed blacks).
