The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered

Ray Tracing in TLOU2?
Comparing to Indiana Jones’ Insane Graphics. Does this game support full ray tracing? I recently played Indiana Jones on my rig with a 9800X3D and RTX 5080 and the graphics absolutely blew me away, especially with full ray tracing enabled. The visuals are so stunning they honestly look better than real life. I’m wondering if The Last of Us Part II offers the same level of ray tracing goodness. Anyone know?

it’s such a shame. I’ve gotten so accustomed to the jaw dropping ray traced graphics in games like Indiana Jones, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and Alan Wake 2 that anything less just doesn’t cut it for me anymore. Once you experience that level of visual fidelity it’s hard to settle for anything else.

I will skip this one.

Even so, the screen space ambient occlusion and screen space reflections are best in industry and in most cases, it will appear as real path tracing. It's improved in the remaster over the 1st remaster.

Skipping the game because it doesn't have actual ray tracing is silly, you won't see the difference.

Are you seriously calling me out like that? Yeah I’ve sunk nearly 3000 hours into Football Manager guilty as charged but that was before I upgraded to my new rig. FM was never about the graphics anyway; it’s all about the depth and strategy. I did enjoy The Last of Us I on PC and the graphics were solid for their time but honestly, it’s not cutting it for me anymore. No ray tracing in TLOU2 feels like a letdown, like, come on, it’s 2025, that’s just lazy design. I’ll probably still grab this one but only when it’s dirt cheap on a heavy discount.

I hear you bud. My 9800x3d and RTX 5090 are usually reserved for nothing but the best. If a game doesn't have full path tracing I just lose interest. Sometimes I'll slum it, and play a game that doesn't have path tracing, but it has to be something special.

3000 hours in left 4 dead and thousands of hours in football managers and you're skipping this due to no rt? you don't even have indiana jones and a plague tale, 40 hours in tomb raider remastered, this has to be bait thread

If it’s so good that it rivals real path tracing in most cases I might not even notice the difference maybe. Still, my standards are sky high now. I’m not about to settle for anything less than the best, like some console peasant. Guess I’ll give it a look anyway, since you’re making it sound worth my time

So what? You’re acting like I’ve personally insulted your favorite game by questioning its lack of ray tracing. My profile has zero bearing on this, it’s not like I’m obligated to list every game I’ve ever played. Ever heard of Game Pass, genius? I played Indiana Jones and A Plague Tale Requiem there not on Steam, don’t act dense about it. I don’t need to own every title on one platform to have an opinion. This isn’t a bait thread; I’m just saying no ray tracing in 2025 feels like a shame when I’ve seen what’s possible. Chill out , your game’s honor isn’t at stake here.

I fully agree. When a game doesn’t bring full path tracing to the table my interest just evaporates. It’s not our fault we’ve got discerning taste and demand nothing less than cutting edge excellence.

I’ll occasionally go with a non path traced title but it’s got to be something truly exceptional to even get a glance.

sure, I get that it originally dropped in 2020 but we’re talking about the Remastered version here right? launching on PC 2025. With all the upgrades they’re touting DLSS 4, ultrawide support etc it’s not unreasonable to expect ray tracing to be on the table, especially when it’s becoming standard in high end releases. I’m not saying it’s a dealbreaker but for those of us rocking beasts like the 9800X3D and RTX 5080, full path tracing is the gold standard now.

the remastered version was just an update for the ps5, this is a port of it

not even close

Not even close? Come on when you’re running a high end machine like mine, ray tracing isn’t just a nice to have but it’s the gold standard. Pair a 9800X3D and RTX 5080 with top tier 4K equipment and the experience is downright incredible..... transformative, even. The way light dances off surfaces the depth of shadows the realism, it’s a whole different league.

TLOU2 remaster might still look great without it but for those of us who’ve tasted that next level immersion, anything less feels like a compromise. Your missing out if you think it’s not a big deal.
you aren't going to be seeing path tracing in the bulk of mainstream releases until a new console gen releases with hardware that can handle it. the market of people with bleeding edge custom pcs is simply not very large
