Moreover, many people requested this "zen mode" very specifically. For example right here.
It might be worth pointing out that we didn't simply cut out portions of the game to create Sunrise. We actually added to the game to provide additional music, additional object types, additional animation work, and additional environmental effects.
So this DLC isn't meant to appeal to everyone's taste, but it is there for those who specifically want this sort of experience.
Thinking about it again its actually not a bad idea at all. The trailer was quite the chill out too. Not my thing but hey is nice thou.
Outside of that, anything I could say has already been said.
I've tried more than a few Workshop "worlds" but nothing that I would consider a decent replacement for "Sunrise" mode.
Especially not one that looks like what I'd want it to look, AND is still a relaxing experience like Sunrise is.
one time I started on a tropical paradise zen like experience over water not unlike Sunrise, including jumping fish, but never really spent much time on it. I might need to try that again.
That's at least one thing you can carry over.
yeah, that was my point in mentioning it. before the guys created Sunrise, I was trying to make a water world with jumping fish and a colorful sky. I failed miserably because it was for only an hour-long jam session and I got stuck on a couple really simple things. that was a while back, though.
I'm going to try and write off Sunrise DLC on my taxes as therapeutic. I'll let you know how that turns out...
haha, yes, let me know how that tax write off goes. good luck. (;
just to be clear, I'm only the community manager. there are two lead developers who are constantly working on making awesome stuff for Race The Sun and future games.
For me, a true 'zen' mode wouldn't have the timer, or score, or crashing. Just me in my ship, coasting, enjoying the music and scenary.
I'm not one of the lead developers on Race The Sun, I'm just a lowly community manager, but I've made some requests of the developers to see if they'd be willing to take the time to tweak the crash experience so that it is more zen like.
I for one totally agree with you that it is very jarring and therefore competes with the zen experience. No promises, but we'll see how they respond to the idea.
Thanks to all those who have been offering feedback on Sunrise. It's our first DLC, it took a lot of work to retro fit it to the already finished game, and we certainly want to know what you all think of it and if there's a way to make it more fun for you. After all, we made Sunrise because so many of you requested it.
The cat jumping onto my lap while playing is also jarring.. CURSED REALITY!!
lol, I digress, it is quite the "jump-scare." Perhaps a permanent collision-shield for Sunrise? Truely will never end until the player themself decides enough calm for the moment, at that point.
I do have a few questions/suggestions, if you're game:
1. Is it possible to mod the sunrise experience, add more assets, change scenery, etc?
2. What are some of those yellowish things I see in Sunrise? Almost looks like a poerup of sorts, but I've managed to fly right through some of them. If needed, I would be more than happy to play some more to provide screenshots.. (With that said, I think I just want to be told to shut up and go play, but I'll still be curious.)
3. Any plans for more DLC? My wallet is open, just take what you need (Don't worry, I'll buy that soundtrack soon (not "Soon TM"))
Sorry, one last thing:
Just so we're clear, you don't give yourself enough credit. Reach your arm around to your back, and pat. Great, now go do that for the other guys. If I could treat you all to a Canadian (beer), I would. Thanks again!
1. anything's possible. if you want to create a Sunrise like world of your own, the editor will give you all the pieces you need to build the same kind of things. (we used to make it easy to duplicate the main courses, but I'm not sure those appear in the editor menu anymore. if you specifically want to copy Sunrise and only make some changes to it, I can find out a good way to do that, so just say the word.)
2. it's a mystery. (:
3. no immediate plans for more DLC. we're still hoping to port Sunrise to other devices and we have a lot of other projects going on (including future games), but I would definitely say it's possible if enough people would be interested in more DLC. in the meantime, Steam Workshop is the best way to create and find new courses for RTS. I'm personally working on a new unofficial mod world myself (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=567855118). I highly recommend you go check out the player worlds if you haven't already.
...and thanks for all the support. (:
