took me forever to notice the music features of Steam, too! (:
the first three tracks of the soundtrack represent the music you hear as you progress through the main course of the game. after you crash or lose power, track four is the music you would hear. then, of course, Apocalypse represents the main music of the unlockable course of the same name. in addition, there is the Sunrise track which is the main music of the DLC.
to be clear, the in game music is broken up into relatively short loops and we choose the song that we feel best fits the mood of what's going on in the game world as you play. what you hear on the soundtrack is actually expanded versions of the music in the game. Forest, our composer extraordinaire, spent some extra time turning those short music loops into more complete songs by giving them more dynamic or variation throughout. in the soundtrack, you'll be able to hear instrumentation and musical motifs that you might not notice while playing the game. I believe he also remastered the tracks for the OST to make it sound much nicer.
hope you enjoy it! (:
