Alternate Costumes?

I thought that the alternate appearances (Witch of the Beast, Witch of Corruption, etc) at the part of the menu that lists achievements, shop, and start were selectable costumes, but every time I try to select one before starting a new run...nothing happens. I revert to the standard "Belle" appearance.

Was I wrong in assuming that you could play as these alternate versions? Do they do anything?

As far as I can tell, they don't do anything. It's just to view the alternate forms.

Would be nice if they did do something. For example, guarantee that one of your two random starting spells match the form you've selected.

I honestly thought it was going to do that because of how RNG the spell choices are. It's difficult to build yourself in any meaningful way. It would be a simple, intuitive, and welcomed addition.

Oh yeah, that's pretty much the biggest issue I have with the game right now. You start a run, choose a path on the map based on available guaranteed potions... and only after you've selected a path does the game tell you which two random spells you have access to.

Often, they're not a match. Often, they're for transformations you're not interested in.

I thought they were as well. Sadly, not. Let's hope we get more stuff added to the game, like costumes or other potions/endings.
