Just play the game. There are 2 ways to heal yourself, from upgrades or from bouquet upgrades once.
On the hardest is the easiest to unlock all the modifications, and you don't really need much healing, just focus on dmg attack speed, and 1 type of modification, if you don't get that choice take something you haven't already gotten to get that passive skill that you can start leveling up at some point.
From upgrades 1 point of healing at least, then the mirror thing, whatever that does, gold and exp, more hits. Then whatever the rest.
Take whatever you feel is lacking, if you do feel you can't outrun take movement speed early on.
2 Buy upgrades on movement speed. It will be easier to avoid enemies. Also buy an amount of attacks upgrade. + Buy witch bag upgrade - it will give you one more upgrade choice.
3 There is also an upgrade on health level and attack power.
4 You can farm levels and gold on levels with bosses or guardians. Run from them and kill monsters and look for pumpkins with health/gold/magnet bonuses, you can even not take experience on ground because a magnet from a pumpkin will summon it to you from all map.
5 Recommend to take the same morph potions upgrades (breasts, hips etc) because on the last level witch will have +50% power of abilities ect. One of my first win runs was with corruption upgrades and I only took hex magic weapons.
6 Buy eye of beholder upgrade - it will show which potion will be on the level.
7 For more gold check achievements and claim if you have some.
8 On level often spawns flower upgrade (witch hour). It will be shown on the borders of the screen. Recommend to take it.
9 After full transformation your witch upgrades avoid attack via spacebar and damages enemies during it.Hope that helps.
So far I've only died 2 times, 8 times won, mostly on hardest (which is easiest to unlock transformations). And all transformations unlocked.
Wish there was an endless mode, where I could try to get all transformations before maxing 'em, well 2x different variants for small with everything else and big with everything else.
Or just have an extra mode where I can mix and match them on my own.
But yeah, getting flowers on each level is basically the best thing you can do yourself in the game, especially when you get the healing bouquet.
Double bumpkin rewards is also nice. When you go projectile weapons you can get very easily ♥♥♥♥ tons of bumpkin rewards, just go in one direction where it spawns the most in a row, and when you hit the vacuum drop, you collect every other drop you missed before.
For content clearing all transformations are viable, as long as you don't get hit much and have enough healing.
For healing itself, the best way either the pumpkin (and hopefully get red potion) or seek the flower on the map, and again hopefully RNG favor you and giving you a buff to auto regen your health every 10 second.
Also if you get a flower and lucky to get 25% dodge buff, please do pick this because the buff will really help you especially on the last boss.
Also sidenote for the skill, i am very recommended to drink at least once of the muscle potion to hopefully get a chance to obtain chainsaw skill (which in my opinion is really broken and OP).
Unlike other games of the genre, don't focus on weaving the mobs, killing them, and then manually picking up XP orbs. No, that will only get you killed. Your objective should be to constantly roam the map for pumpkins. That way you'll be constantly refilling your HP with potions and picking up XP orbs with the gathering orb. The rest of the drops are also pretty useful.
When you get an achievement, you can collect gold for it. It's not explicitly stated, so make sure to go to the achievements tab and collect your rewards. For early upgrades, I'd recommend getting XP, a value point in movement speed, and then get damage and attack speed
Lastly as mentioned, make sure to seek out the flower whenever it spawns for that big upgrade. Stages with bosses, also have the boss drop a flower upon death, so make sure you're near him when that happens. On those stages, you can generally get the most amount of XP, by just avoiding the boss, killing mobs and getting XP collections orbs. And if you're lucky, you can get both a stage flower and boss flower, giving you a significant edge
Just go south and collect pumpkins, it's too easy to win.
I've also tried nightmare difficulty but the game became extremely grindy at that point, so I uninstalled it for now.
Before you start the game, here are the upgrades you should focus on: XP gain, Damage and Attack Range.
On nightmare, always, and I mean always, start off with kill all devils level. That way you have enough time to gain all of your necessary XP. If you start off with time trial, you'll barely reach level 9, while on kill all devils, you'll reach lv20 without a problem.
Now which weapon upgrades should you take? As a rule of thumb, always makes out bouquet damage, speed and range first, UNLESS you get a Projectile weapon upgrade. Black Hole(AoE) for crowd control and Fireball(Explosive) for powerful damage around you are also pretty good options.
Since you'll be running around, you want everything in front of you to die. Your bouquet and Projectile weapons do just that, allowing you to safely clear your path. If possible, always get small boob potion until maxed(getting afterwords does nothing). At max level, you get a passive that you can level up, which dramatically boosts the damage of ranged weapons even further.
As secondary potions, Muscle is good, as you get the Crit passive(+5% extra crit at max rank). A lot of flower upgrades are based on crit, so that's also a bonus.
Explosive and Curse are probably the next best upgrades. Explosive as mentioned has some pretty decently damaging abilities. Curse also has some powerful tools, but what I find most fun is getting the fear bouquet, which makes damaged units from curses run away.
Beast is only good getting once, and that's only so you can get the movement speed passive. Each rank gave either 6 or 8% extra movement speed, for 5 total levels. However, I don't recommend with going for beasts at Nightmare. They sadly don't deal enough damage and they don't clear units around or in front of you, which is what you want
