This game will always stretch widescreen resolutions, unless a 4:3 resolution is set in the game options (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, or 1360x1024) with the option to always keep aspect ratios in the video card control panel (AMD Catalyst/Radeon Crimson Settings, Nvidia Control Panel, Intel HD Graphics Control Panel). With both of those options configured the game should display properly. If this has been done and still the image is shown stretched, then the problem is with the display monitor itself. Probably there's an option in the display that's stretching the image because it was set that way, or has a problem with the resolution chosen.
I played the game on 1360x1024 because the image looked sharper and better that way than with lower resolutions, with no problems at all on my 24'' widescreen display.
Good game, by the way
I think it's time for a replay of this one and I'll give it a go =)
One of the more enjoyable hidden object games in my collection - some of the new stuff from Artifex Mundi is amazing as well.. Grim Legends 3 is shaping up REALLY well if you like that series.

I just started a replay of the game and found this post. Set my screen to 1400x1050. Looks as sharp as 1920x1080.
