What uses fuel? Where does it keep going.
Another newbie question, but what all uses up fuel?

I know warps/jumps use fuel (though I believe you get multiple jumps per 1 fuel)

Manual charging of warp programs uses fuel.

What else? I seem to keep running out when I least expect it, and when I stock up -- but I'm not sure whats using it up. (It's not either of the two above).

- Does using ship thrusters consume any fuel? Or just reactor power as it states?
- Is there a virus that can deplete your fuel? Or some way it can drain without being obvious?
- What other systems might be consuming my fuel, or might the bots be dumping it into?

Any advice is much appreciated, thank you!

- Only jumping and manual charging consume fuel

Thank you for the response. This is what I had thought, but something else is definitely consuming fuel. I set all the ai not to manually recharge programs or jump, and I can still deplete my fuel when piloting.

It seems like when I pilot manually, I can use up fuel capsules fairly quick. Just by using the main thrusters at full. Maybe something else is happening, but if I have 30 fuel capsules, jump in pilot and hold left click for 20 seconds, I end up with 27 fuel capsules.

Edit: Just did another test, ai pilot in battle. Fuel dropped from 38 capsules to 9 during battle. Only thing I can think is it's to do with main thruster usage. Maybe a bug?

Edit: Another random example. Had 8 fuel capsules left, went in to a repair depot and used it, exited the repair depot. Line up for next jump.... and no fuel left. Where did it go? This is driving me nuts haha.

If anyone has any information about this or an idea what might be happening, would love to learn! Thanks =)

Hello, just to clarify one point: 1 jump = 1 fuel
Manual recharges: 1 fuel = as many recharge points as your jump drive gives per fuel
Explanation for the fuel loss:
1. Your AI is manually recharging programs. Bots do that.
2. If you lose fuel without jumping or manual recharge, then one of your crew might troll and manual recharge without telling you and without need.

Bug seems unlikely, but verify your game data nevertheless. If it happens when you play solo and without engbot AI and despite dile verification, i recommend writing and ingame bug report and sending the save game to the devs for trouble shooting.

Most likely scenario is you have either scibot or engbot configured to manual program charge by mistake. You may have a priority inverted or something. To be certain, you can try deleting all other priorities besides the base and setting that to 0 dots.

Thanks for everyone chiming in -- it was a head scratcher, but I finally figured it out. I'll explain, because I could see it happening to someone else in the future.

I've been playing solo with 4 AI, so it couldn't have been humans messing with me. I had double and triple checked that NONE of the AI had any pips in the 'manual program charging' except for my scientist.

After standing there and observing the scientist during battles, it would basically never use the manual charging, and during that time the fuel capsule count was as expected.

For a long while, I kept watching, waiting for this elusive 'bug' or what ever was happening to happen again. I was going to catch it in the act! But nothing, for hours everything was as expected.

Finally, I gave up watching and went back to my normal playstyle. I'd jumped into a battle and took over the ships piloting. After the battle, I checked the fuel and BAM - 20 capsules gone.

In conclusion, I realized that my AI pilot had no priorities set while I was piloting (including 'Manual Program Charge'). However, it seems that when the pilot had nothing else to do -- it started dumping fuel into the manual charging station. Not sure why it does this, but it seems to be a default of some kind when there are NO other priorities set.

Simple fix, make sure in AI to give it something to do while not piloting. For example, 'Stay Close To Captain' while someone else is piloting will stop this.

Tested several times and caught the pilot in the act to confirm this is what was happening.

Lol. Pibot is the culprit! Who would have suspected it? It was angry you took its job and started trolling your ship. This is funny. I btw recommend to program your pilot to man the secondary turrets when you pilot. It will increase their shooting frequency.
Good you figured the mystery out!

Same thing happened to me, thanks for the diagnosis!
