Other Games Like Pulsar?
Okay, so we have a 5-player group dedicated to play Pulsar every week. I don't want to stray from that experience with that group. What other games are out there that scratch the same itch as effectively or nearly as effectively as Pulsar?

I.e. mission-bases, role-based, open world co-op, preferably (but not restricted to) sci-fi.

Interstellar Rift, maybe?

Another game that you can play with friends in the same room which is similar to Pulsar in terms of manning a ship together is "Artemis". It looks awful but the gameplay is fun when playing with the right people.

star trek bridge crew is pretty nice. but its totally a bridge sim, you cant walk around or explore. generic missions and some story stuff. if you like ST it's great.
Dangerous Waters multi crew submarines, aircraft, and ships

Barotrauma

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is like Pulsar, but you can't run around. Artemis (which was mentioned) is a good game, but you should try out Empty Epsilon first (mostly because it's free and has more frequent updates).

Been playing Barotrauma with my friends and it has a very Pulsar feel to it, but it's also a lot more in depth and has far less "chill" moments than Pulsar. You're pretty much constantly paranoid and scared of what's beyond your limited sonar and periscopes.

Empyrion Galactic Survival is a nice one

Until one of your friends stands up from his seat in your moving ship and gets jettisoned out the back because of the lousy physics or lack thereof. Or they get disconnected while you're moving and log back in to being adift in space in just their space suit.

Empyrion can be fun with friends, but it's not really a good capital ship crew simulator. Everyone is better off in their own ship.

Ignore this guy, he's not played the game.
You can't stand up in a moving ship in Empyrion.

Technically true but your phrasing sounds intentionally misleading. You can absolutely stand up in a moving ship that has stopped for five seconds while the pilot checks his map, then get jettisoned out the back to float in space once the ship starts moving again.
Source: Me. I did that.

m8 if the ship is not moving then it has stopped
that's how motion works

and you can't stand up and be jettisoned during movement, so what the other guy said cannot happen.
