What are research logs good for ?

Found them in a mission where i had to kill rats, but the SciBot is doing nothing with them, when i hand them to him. The Atomizer is also not interested, but they are blue in my inventory, seems they are special.

If the mission didn't take the item and none of your active missions request it, it's probably a spare item. I'd just leave it in the locker and forget about it. Some missions consume their items and some don't.
