Carrier best ship?
Ive been playing for over 100 hours now and I think I've determined the best overall ship.
Firstly I evaluated every ship by puttting them through the paces and seeing how they cope in harsh environments. I also considered their functionality and overall efficiency.
The ships are rank worst to best (remember this is my opinion):

Ships:
W.D Destroyer:
-Great DPS with often excepional armor
-Has resonable turn speed and acceleration
-Cargo bay is tiny
-Can't smuggle (Hide cargo)
-Has no extrator support
-Has nukes
-Is overall an ok ship, in my opinion is the worst of all six

W.D Strike Vessel
-Great DPS with also exceptional armor
-Has great turn speed and acceleration
-Can't smuggle (Hide cargo)
-Has nukes
-No extrator support
-Cargo bay is really decent
-Is overall a really good ship with nice interior however no extrator support and the lack of hiding cargo is unfortunate.

Stargazer:
-Stealth does nothing against other manned ships but does work with drones (stealth needs fixing!)
-Has extractor
-No nukes
-Can smuggle
-Cargo is very decent
-Handles quite well
-Is overall a really nice ship to fly due to a nice interior and look while also being very efficient in combat.

Intrepid/Grim Cuttlas:
-Interior and layout is quite generic
-Has nukes
-Has extractor support
-Can't smuggle (hide cargo)
-Is very menurverable and can dodge non laser weapons easily
-Cargo bay is meh (quite limited)
-Bridge is really cool along with engineering
-Handles combat situations very easilty
-Systems can be repaired quickly
-Overall, despite having a limited cargo space the interpid is a fun, fast flying death machine that can't smuggle (hide cargo).

Roland:
-Brilliant interior, very comforting (i.e bridge is awesome along with engineering and the cargo bay)
-Shields charge quickly due to stat boost
-Is very slow at turning
-Acceleration is awesome (very fast)
-Has massive cargo space
-Has extractor support
-Has nukes
-Can't smuggle (hide cargo)
-Systems can't be repaired quickly
-Physically running to different parts of the ship take a while
-Is overall a really awesome ship that has a great interior/ mass cargo space while despite being slow at turning can fight really well.

Carrier:
-Has nukes
-Has extractor
-Can smuggle
-Has decent interior (Bridge is meh)
-Is quick and turns fast
-Systems are easy to repair
-When upgraded the Carrier is a beast
-Cargo is higher than average
-Is fun to fly
-Overall is a ship that can do everything very well and little compensation is needed.

Thankyou for reading my post, please feel free to comment on what your favourite ship is and why.

Most of your analysis holds for me, but not everything.

Worth pointing out for Roland would be lack of reverse thrusters, Carrier and Stargazer are super weak at start and that the Intrepid was the first ship in the game, so its design is the oldest one (which might make it feel more generic than it should).

By the way, have you found the Fox yet?

Yoou might want to use "+" and "-" instead of only "-" for features, so others would know what the good things about the ships are.

Hint: The Fox is NOT in the same room as the dinosaurs.

Stargazer needs a switch to turn the lights up..

One thing I would like to see is components that work better or worse in particular hulls. The hull being a generic container for components ultimately means that the advantages of the carrier or stargazer can be extended to a ship with destroyer-like stats.
