I have seen bizarre inventory glitches happen with stations though, which could lead to seeing the same equipment at basically every store you go to. That's not supposed to happen though, at least as far as I know, and is almost certainly a bug.
I was making my way round to all the scrap yards (finally had enough credits to get all the experimental(s) I wanted to try , and wanted to upgrade them) purchasing the 5X stacks first. When they were gone at the first one, I moved to the second. That shop only had 3X and 1X. So purchased all the 3X, moved to next shop... that only had 1x. cleaned that out and circled back <bfg>. THe others were now empty too. That seemed to imply a shared loot pool. Well, I suppose its time to clear out every last sector to get the scrap I need. Sad I have 800K credits and nothing to spend it on.
Thanks for feedback.
I did another play thru and confirmed that for sure its one pool (I think the total is around 700 scrap). Best way to harvest scrap is to leave most sectors UN-explored until you get the 'cursed fragment" at the comet- then purchase a pair of scrap processors -AND- get the high roller fragment. Then you can get 2 or 3 scrap for every sector you pass thru. Helps to have a stealth ship, and a fast warp charge.
No bug here, just a back story I didn't trip on till this play thru
One side note: when I was revisiting all the shops and scrap yards.... All but one had an attendant. First time I saw that I assumed one of the crew had killed it... but played solo this last time and saw that the one shop just doesn't have a NPC or robot in it. Must be more lore about that to find <g>
