How many missions?
The website for this game shows a road map.

There I can read about "83+ missions" but the last update seems to be from June 2018.
So I wonder how many missions there actually are. I noticed that there seems to be a set of missions that always happens at first, others are simply "filling mission where a person wants to bring X or kill Y etc."
So in the end it sounds like every faction has around 20-30 missions to offer in total?
Is this correct? It sounds like after a few hours I would have completed everything in the game so far. Please tell me there is more to do than the usual missions I know already.

Does anyone have an idea if the mission counter from their website is really last updated in 2018 (implying there might be more that I haven't seen yet)?

Last update was October 2020 related to steam. Didn't count the missions available, but after about 60h (i'm not playing very pushed forward, i tend to explore) i find small mission on planets or stations bound to just them. Didn't even do missions for other than CU, except some getting from CU Hub.
In my view, their homepage seems outdated.

I can 100% assure you there are more missions than in 2018. Not -too- long ago they focused on adding in "end-game" content for each of the factions, and released bounty hunting since then. I'm not sure on the total number of missions, hopefully one of the (two) devs can answer that.

From what I know: You have faction-specific missions (only that faction can get these missions, so WD Corp, Colonial Union, Alliance of Gentlemen, and Fluffy Biscuit), generic space missions (anyone can get these, such as your cargo being scanned), Bounty Hunter missions (you have to sign up with the bounty hunting agency), and planetary missions.

The way most missions are activated is your ship travelling/warping within a certain range of the sector that contains that mission. There are also missions that require you to complete other missions before they are activated. Quite a few missions are on the large named-stations, such as the WD Hub, and often can only be accepted by a certain faction.

Lastly: From what I know the devs are focusing on the "Lost Colony" part of Pulsar, as in the story. From the looks of it these mission(s) should be fairly long. My guess is: They will want to finish up the story first (such as introducing the lost colony), and then start adding in more generic side-missions and quest lines.

Yes that is what I thought, too. I was just "confused" because the progress stated some percentage values that seemed more the current ones.
E.g. "AI - (Crew Bots and Enemies) - 92%" seems like it got updated and just forgot to change the date at the bottom of the page.

Aside from that I'm a story player so a mission "destroy ship X" counts more or less as the same requesting to "destroy ship Y".
And it sometimes becomes tricky to "change factions" so it also feels like in the end I will be able to play only half of the missions. (Not sure if I just botch this but it's hard to start another factions story line. Is this just me?)

But well, thanks for all the info. I seriously hope they accept the offer for "user quests" so we can generate even more content. I love the game!

The wiki has some info on missions. I don't think all missions are listed there yet? But quite a few are. There are many story missions, though I would always like to see more of those.
It is not "tricky" to change factions, it is not possible. You can lose your faction, but you can not enter a different faction OR play their storyline. That is good though and intended. The game is roguelike and designed to be played in several short runs during which you can experience the story from different angles and with different playstyles.
Quite a few missions would exclude each other, if faction swapping was possible. In one setting you defend a shipment, in the other you are the attacker.

I think I counted something like 60 missions on the wiki, but I didn't count the "ship missions".

Which matches more or less the one from the website. But then again that can be outdated, too.

Yeah, sadly the wiki is outdated. But better to be outdated than to lack content xD

The wiki is not outdated regarding the missions, it only relatively recently started working on adding the missions. It is a fan wiki. Feel free to contribute :D

It is outdated in terms of some other things, as of last week when I last checked. If I knew how to work on fan wikis I would have many times before. Instead I write down the information manually into google docs so my IRL friends have access to it.
