In my view, their homepage seems outdated.
From what I know: You have faction-specific missions (only that faction can get these missions, so WD Corp, Colonial Union, Alliance of Gentlemen, and Fluffy Biscuit), generic space missions (anyone can get these, such as your cargo being scanned), Bounty Hunter missions (you have to sign up with the bounty hunting agency), and planetary missions.
The way most missions are activated is your ship travelling/warping within a certain range of the sector that contains that mission. There are also missions that require you to complete other missions before they are activated. Quite a few missions are on the large named-stations, such as the WD Hub, and often can only be accepted by a certain faction.
Lastly: From what I know the devs are focusing on the "Lost Colony" part of Pulsar, as in the story. From the looks of it these mission(s) should be fairly long. My guess is: They will want to finish up the story first (such as introducing the lost colony), and then start adding in more generic side-missions and quest lines.
E.g. "AI - (Crew Bots and Enemies) - 92%" seems like it got updated and just forgot to change the date at the bottom of the page.
Aside from that I'm a story player so a mission "destroy ship X" counts more or less as the same requesting to "destroy ship Y".
And it sometimes becomes tricky to "change factions" so it also feels like in the end I will be able to play only half of the missions. (Not sure if I just botch this but it's hard to start another factions story line. Is this just me?)
But well, thanks for all the info. I seriously hope they accept the offer for "user quests" so we can generate even more content. I love the game!
It is not "tricky" to change factions, it is not possible. You can lose your faction, but you can not enter a different faction OR play their storyline. That is good though and intended. The game is roguelike and designed to be played in several short runs during which you can experience the story from different angles and with different playstyles.
Quite a few missions would exclude each other, if faction swapping was possible. In one setting you defend a shipment, in the other you are the attacker.
Which matches more or less the one from the website. But then again that can be outdated, too.
