The game is just so basic......For the price you can get much better beat'em ups. Don't waste the dough.

Very bland and simple, not enough content to justify the price, Shredder's Revenge was way much better.

Completed the game on normal in 74 minutes. It was a decent way to pass the time, but offered no story, extremely basic gameplay, and a very subpar experience for $29.99. Sure, I could refund the game since it's under the 2 hour threshold set by Steam, but I played it and so I'll keep it.

There are 6 stages with 2 bosses per stage. Using an Xbox controller, your attacks consist of smashing the X button, pressing A+X to do a spin AoE attack, or jumping and pressing A or X for an aerial. There is no dodge or reflect, the latter of which would have made a great addition the the spin attack AoE.

bought and played it right when it released, completed the whole game in an hour, immediately asked for a refund

really, really bad voice acting, the fact that it has the original cast is cool, but the voice acting itself is terrible. most voicelines are just ctrl c + ctrl v'd from tmnt out of the shadows 2013 videogame, but again, terribly done, like they were ai-voice acted. the gameplay is terrible, since it only has a singe attack with a single 3hit combo, which makes the game really repetetive. atleast it has turtle power, like in shredder's revenge, but it doesnt fix the problem

i DO NOT recommend this game to anyone, even if you are a huge tmnt fan like me, dont buy it, its not worth the money.

Disclosure: My friend gifted me this game, so as I did not pay $30 myself, the sting of the sparse content doesn't bother me as much.

You can tell the quality of a licensed game by how surface level references and character inclusions are tied in. For example; yet another TMNT game lacking Casey Jones. Seriously, not even as an assist power-up? You added two new levels in to this port but couldn't bother to get one of the main staples of TMNT?

If you, like me, are a reclusive shut-in that never ventures outside, and also enjoy Ninja Turtles like any self-respecting manchild, the release of this former arcade cabinet-exclusive likely caught your interest. A 2017 arcade machine being ported to home devices seven years after the fact? Interesting.

That aside, this is a by the numbers and fairly unpredictable, but enjoyable, beat-em-up. It's yet another brawler chasing the dragon that is Turtles in Time, and while it doesn't come close to meeting the goal it aims for, it's still a fun time. The story is barebones and follows as thus: Go fight through New York to get to Shredder. Why? Because it's an arcade game, dummy.

The levels are standard side-scrolling fare with dozens of enemies leaping onto the screen from various angles, VERY often shooting at you from off-screen (I'm assuming this is a leftover from the arcade cabinet version where it was likely intended to screw you over to drain more quarters out of your wallet) -- as enemies filter in from all corners. It can get hectic, but thankfully you have ways to even the odds with frequent objects to grab and throw, explosive barrels to set off, special pick-ups that will cause you to spin around on the back of your shell as you 1-hit KO enemies for a short period of time, and even Ally Tokens that will spawn the likes of Metalhead and Leatherhead (AGAIN, seriously-- where the hell is Casey Jones? Or Splinter, for that matter?) which will do screen-clearing waves of attacks that kill any and everything currently on screen.

Each level has two boss battles, some of which are peculiar deep cuts from the 2012 version of the series, and all voiced by the 2012 cast. The bosses all sound great, but the turtles themselves... well. You can tell they were called in to do voices on their days off, AND it sounds like they were ony allowed to do one take. I don't know if Greg Cipes was sick the day of this recording, but he sounds incredibly off as Mikey- AND irritating. The game has the most obnoxious, three repeating high-pitched wails from Mikey and Donnie that repeat ad nauseum any time you press the attack button. Seriously, for the love of God-- don't pick Mikey unless you have the game on mute. That aside, the turtles DO all have unique voice-lines for each boss, giving it just the slightest touch of novel effort that other TMNT beat-em-ups don't have.

The visuals themselves are fine, but... flat? It's a strange mix. The turtle shells look incredible and have a glowing sheen on their shells, but other models seem... off. Shredder, for instance, looks like he's been fasting for several decades and is very lanky. Some stages look like they've jumped right off the screen of the 2012 series, while others are flat and lacking shadows or the tone that made the '12 series what it was. I'm not sure which is which as I've never played the original arcade cabinet.

However, there are little touches that surprised me. When destroying one of the Krang robot suits, the Krang themselves will climb out of the suit and attemple to scuttle away. You can smack it to get extra points/Turtle Power (your own, less powerful screen-clearing super attack) or sometimes fling it towards the screen, Turtles in Time style. It caught my friend and I off guard and made us laugh when we managed to do so. On one level, the 80's Krang will destroy a wall and shoot electric beams through the giant gap into the arena, ripped straight from Turtles in Time. On the New York level, vans will burst onto the screen from the backdrop, swerving into the foreground as Krang robots pile out onto the street in frront of you. Another particularly cool moment is in the sewers where a subway car gets derailed right in front of you and crashes into a wall, only for the Xenomorph-esque squirrel mutants to kick the doors open and come piling out in a screeching fury. These are small touches, of which the game needs WAY more of, but they're still appreciated. (I'm also aware the aliens are called Utroms, but we're going with 2012 terminology.)

There is no V-Sync as of this writing, so prepare for notable screen tearing. Aside from that, I had zero issue with performance, the game had no crashes or hitches. I played through Remote Play with a friend and we had a good time despite some of the oddities with the voice performances.

The game took about 55~ minutes to beat with a friend on Normal. I plan to play through it at least a few more times over the coming weeks, but your mileage will absolutely vary. The content IS incredibly sparse, and it lacks any of Shredder's Revenge replay value.

This is no Shredder's Revenge, but if you were always curious how the arcade cabinet played and you wanted to try it for yourself, this is a surprisingly competent game- just, seriously, don't expect anything on the level of Shredder's Revenge. It's not even close.

Personal favorite moment: During the Karai miniboss, she teleports and taunts with a "Catch me if you can!" - before she finished her taunt, she got an explosive crate to the face and flopped over. Made my friend and I burst out laughing.

The game is so basic, button spam and 1 hour long, not bad for 5$ if you play with friends maybe it can be funny, but for the price better buy Shredder Revenge or Cowabunga col. , which are just better.

I feel like that, as someone who has NOT played the arcade version, this port feels bareboned. Don't get me wrong, it's fun for the first few stages, but once you just complete all of them in under an hour or two, you're just left with nothing.
If in the future, mods and/or workshop related features come into play, then I wouldn't mind at all, let the community have some fun making level designs, or even some more new, original content by the developers themselves, but for now it isn't it.
No online features, either, which for a multiplayer game in 2024 is so surreal. I get it's an arcade port, but you can do more than the bare minimum.
Voice acting feels wrong too, like they just cherry picked from the show and just placed into the game, it's only the English voice actors too, which sound like they're voicing an anime dub really poorly with zero effort, repeating phrases more than three times.
All in all, you're best waiting for this game to be on sale (15% off still doesn't feel worth it), while I will still play this game every once in a while, it isn't all that good.

TMNT Wrath of the Mutants. Now, this is a game where it's highly recommended you know what you're getting into before buying. Mainly, that this is a home port of the 2017 arcade game with some extra content. That being two new levels based on Dimension X and an Amusement Park. There are also some new bosses as well as other bosses that were swapped around. But does that make this port worth it? One way to find out

Gameplay: This game, like many TMNT beat 'em ups, takes inspiration from the old Konami beat 'em ups. Meaning you have stuff like screen throws and slam attacks. However, there are some unique things this game does like circle attacks that attack all around you, and a screen nuke called Turtle Power that is charged through dealing damage and finding powerups. Said powerups are another addition to separate itself from the 80s beat 'em ups, and include different abilities like more Turtle Power, Health increase, or weapons/assists from the series that do damage to enemies. However, there is also the shell powerup that is basically the Bomb Pizza from the old games. Besides that, it doesn't really get more complex than that, it's a surprisingly simple game. Almost too simple as combat can get repetitive at times, and all the turtles basically play the same, barring their screen nuke... Which is also just more visual flair. It's kinda disappointing that the Turtles don't even get their own stats. Still, the main appeal in these games is the multiplayer, so, I assume everything is more fun there.
Another weird thing is that the difficulty is a weird middleground of easy and hard. Even though you do have selectable difficulties, you do get reminders that this was originally an arcade game, so you will often get stuff like enemies with huge reach, enemies with impossible reaction times, or sometimes the enemies will just delete your health bar. But there are also times where you just completely demolish the enemies, and the game already gives you plenty of lives and continues that refresh each stage, so even with these difficulties, you'll still have an easy time playing.
That leaves the new stages, the Amusement Park and Dimension X. They're alright, they don't have the most intense gimmicks, but they were still pretty fun to play through. Overall, this game gets an alright 7/10 for gameplay

Graphics, Presentation, and Sound: This part is weird. Since it was originally released in 2017, it's based on the 2012 series, so the character designs, locations, and other details are based on that version of the Turtles. This is the closest we will get to 2012 content in the modern age after Nick got obsessed with the 87 designs. Overall, the game does look fine for a 2017 arcade game in most parts, while other parts look... Bad. It's clear that this game didn't receive too many visual upgrades when it was being brought home, which is kind of disappointing. Although the new content does look nice and fits in perfectly with the original arcade stages, stuff like the ending scene that looks like complete crap, and oddly enough, isn't voiced at all. Despite them getting the original voice cast for this game.
Speaking of, yes, they were able to get the original voice cast to voice the characters, but for some reason the Turtles themselves sound... Off. It seems that they weren't properly prepared when doing voices for the arcade release, and not much else for the home port (Although in the case of the home port, it was probably years since they did voices for these characters, although Rob Paulsen had the benefit of voicing 87 Raphael so his Donnie here sounded on brand). The rest of the characters sound fine, even if most of them were just reused from the arcade original, including Nolan North, Kevin Michael Richardson, and the late Gilbert Gotfried.
Although staying on the sound, the game had issues with sound balancing. Despite the music sounding fine, it was way too quiet to properly hear, causing all the tunes to be less memorable than they should. Same with the sound effects, they're way too quiet and not punchy enough. They really needed more work on this part. 6/10

Steam Deck Compatibility: Despite it being listed as unknown, this game worked on Steam Deck with 0 issues whatsoever. 10/10

Replayability: After you beat the game, you get the option to replay on hard mode, but after that, nothing. I get it, this was meant to just be a port of the arcade game, but with basically nothing to work for, at best you would only replay this to play with friends, or to practice for a session on the actual arcade cabinet. Not even something as basic as a survival mode. That's... Sad. 2/10

Final Thoughts: Again, you have to know what you're getting into with this. I feel if you know that this is a port of the 2017 arcade game, and it's something you're looking for, I'd say go for it. It helps that the game is a somewhat generous 30 bucks, and right now it's on sale. And since it's a GameMill game, it'll go on sale every 2 seconds. However, if you aren't interested in a near direct port with minimal additions to the original game, I'd say pass. Personally however, I found this a very fine game, so I think it deserves a fine rating of a 7/10 with a side of a plain cheese pizza. If nothing else, there is one undeniable fact on one thing this game does well: Preservation. Raw Thrills is absolutely horrible at making their games accessible. In the modern age, you really cannot rely on arcade exclusives, so we are really lucky that GameMill is porting their games over to console. Why GameMill? I dunno. But still, it's good that Raw Thrills' games are being properly preserved on consoles instead of being stuck on arcade jail. Now... Can we get Dirty Drivin' next? Or maybe Nicktoons Nitro if they're gonna keep doing Nick arcade games (Maybe with a fully voiced cast this time).
If you're looking for other platforms to play this on, it's on every other modern platform: PS4, PS5, Switch, XBONE, and XBOX SeX/SeS including physical copies, so you won't have trouble finding it

The game basically lasts just an hour, It's very basic, no dodge or sprint, no combos, it autotargets by default, it's just not fun to play like that. I was really disappointed. I mean after Shredder's Revenge, I would have thought that the devs would have at least tried to get to that level. Not worth the price at all.

The graphics are nice though.

Game is a bit of beat em up fun but you can complete it in under an hour. Definitely not worth the price tag. Maybe for 10$?
