There has been some rumblings on the forum about how the male loneliness epidemic might be some of the social context for this game. And if that was an artistic intention of the creator, then adding the female option would drastically change the meaning of the work.
Although I wonder if perhaps those are being projected onto the game by players, rather than intended by the dev... i thought I heard this was a russian dev, and i usually hear about the male loneliness epidemic in reference to america (and maybe to a small degree, maybe western europe). Russia's got a different male social issue to deal with atm.
But then, perhaps the dev is simply a businessman, in which case the female player would make the game appealing to a wider audience.
Still, it's an interesting question.
