Does the demo skip around a bunch or is the game just like that?

It VERY suddenly cuts off from day 1 to day 2 to 5 and 33. Is that normal, or am I getting speed-boosted through the story to get to the bits that convince me to buy the game?

No that's how it is. Don't worry I was thrown off with the way the demo does it in the beginning bit but it makes more sense in the main game
