I'm not clear what language this game is actually supposed to be in.
Is it natively English and the Japanese voices are just a nice bonus, or is it natively Japanese, and the English subs are just the bonus for foreigners?

There's a lot of parts where the two don't really match. The biggest example is with Cool Mita before you play the hammer game where she's really rude, gets a shoulder massager out of her inventory, and tells you the game is 18+. But the voice lines have her entirely upbeat and sweet, and she tells us the game ISN'T 18+.

It sounds like the subs are the bonus, since Kind Mita is also way nicer in her voiced lines- unlike her subs, which turn her into a bit of a curmudgeon.

Played in Russian. Fit really well.

The game was made by primarily russian developers and its main language is Russian. Want the original experience - play with the russian voiceover.

P.S That wasn't a 'shoulder massager' and she clearly states that it IS an 18+ game. You got that wrong.

She VERY specifically says the game isn't 18+ in Japanese. That's the point here. The subs say it is, the voice says it isn't. And apparently neither of these are the original language in the first place, so god knows what the Devs actually intended.

I've double-checked and yes, in Russian Cappie clearly says (both subs and voice) 'Did you know it's an 18+ game, did you?'. And then she kind of ignores MC's question by saying 'it's a tool to lure mice out of their holes' referring to both the game they are about to play and 'the tool' itself which is a rather dirty pun.

So the Japanese version is wrong and should be probably be disregarded when there's some contradiction.

Well now every one of the girls suddenly got way ruder, but also paradoxically less affectionate, since they only refer to you as "darling" and the like in the subs.

The dialogue in general could use work, if only to get all the different translations to read naturally.

Even in the English translation she clearly says 'You do know...this is an adult game, no?'. Is Japanese your native? If you know it well, you should tell the developers about this translation error on their Discord.

P.S I have no issues with how the dialogue was written in Russian. And the voiceover in Russian is also pretty damn good.

I'm a JP>EN translator. There's always a lot weirdness with those kinds of translations since the whole field is full of charlatans who don't actually care about maintaining fidelity to the original dialogue, but outright contradictions like the one example I gave a are rare. I may just have to go complain, because between grammar/spelling mistakes in the English thing, and wild swings in the MItas' characters in the Japanese, it's looking like someone somewhere fell asleep at the wheel.

If that's the case, you should definitely do just that. I for once have absolutely ZERO idea why the developers chose Japanese out of all languages to have a full voiceover. Not that I mind, it's just bizzare, knowing that you need to find a translator + a native speaker. And a translator from Russian (English) into Japanese aren't exactly the most common specialists out there and not the cheapest when it comes to their services.

It is kind of frustrating when the Japanese doesn't match the English subtitles. They probably can't re-record the VA, as that would be really expensive. I wish they'd do another pass where the English matched it better.
Fumajime Dec 15, 2024 @ 12:54am
I can't comment on the Russian aspect as I have no background in it, but I'm fluent in JP and EN and yeah, it's a bit jarring a lot of the time to see/hear the discrepancies between the two.

Well, I'm an anime guy from Russia. And I've always liked Japanese voice much more than Russian voice. Since Russian anime voice has always been amateurish and people rarely get paid for it....
I think the developers in this is not much different from me, so they really wanted a Japanese voice. Or the majority of donators who supported development of the game wanted Japanese voice. Perhaps the main voice of the game is just Japanese?

But it's worth noting that the Russian voice acting is surprisingly very good.

About the cool mita and the joke about the 18+ game.
If I remember correctly, different countries have different age ratings. Maybe it's just a mistake in the subtitles. By the way, somewhere at the launch of the game just says that they have not yet fixed all the flaws and asked for help with it.

The original plot of the game is written in Russian. Most likely, when the developers and the publisher translated the game into Japanese, there were misunderstandings, now we have what we have, both versions contradict each other (in the case of the "18+" line)

Honestly, the Japanese lines often a huge improvement over the English ones anyway. If it were up to me, I'd just figure out which ones work better and just change the English subs before trying to re-record anything.

I'm doing a daily thing where I upload the bigger problems with the translations for the locations on the Discord. Hopefully they listen.

Early on she even says the "World just isn't perfect YET" (As opposed to "But not everything's perfect in this world..." knowing this game is dark and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up from the start, implies that she's going to use MC to make it perfect and fix all the issues she was talking about. Possibly by shoving him into the core she was talking about and using his knowledge of the real world or whatever to fill everything in.

The game is originally written in Russian, The English you are seeing is a translated text by itself.
Why do you want to rewrite a translation to match yet another translation? Some weird Japan-obsessed revisionism right here.
