Start up Error
When I try to run the game I get this error "Could not load ruleset root file (Base.xml) Do you want to try reloading the data?

Hitting yes doesn't have any effect. Anyone else found this issue and know how to solve it?

Sounds like your ruleset may not have downloaded properly. Try pressing the "Check for updates" button the first screen - this might download the ruleset properly.

Which ruleset are you trying to use?

Are you running the Demo or the main app? We had an early version that was posted to Steam that did that. Can you try going to your Steam library, Delete Local Content for Fantasy Grounds and Re-run the Install and click Play?

The game won't even get to the point where I can choose the ruleset. Uninstalling didn't do anything. I can launch the program outside of Steam. But I get the error message when I try to run it through Steam.

When you launch it through Steam, stop on the Settings screen and verify your App Directory and your Data Directory. When you launch from outside Steam, do you see different values? If so, you'll want to reset those to match the same location used for the non-Steam version since that is working.

you might have to manually delete the following 2 folders:
C:\Users\<<username>>\AppData\Roaming\Fantasy Grounds\rulesets
and rerun the updater...

Ran into the same problem. "Delet Local Content" did the trick and now running fine.

I've purged Fantasy Grounds completely from my computer and reinstalled. Still getting the same error message.

Right-click on "Fantasy Grounds" in your library and select "Delete local content"

Not sure I want to "delete local content" hmmm... I'll just keep launching FG from my PC. It's not like I use Steam much. Civ 5 and that's about it.

it should re-download the DLC when it updates again.

You can check which files are going to be deleted. Right-click on Fantasy Grounds in your Steam library, select "Properties", then click on the "LOCAL FILES" tab and press "BROWSE LOCAL FILES...". If you're concerned, make a backup of them before you "Delete local content".

silly me, I thought it would delete some of the content from the other version... I followed your instructions and it now works fine Trenloe, thank you

I just had a friend gift me this game and the savage worlds ruleset.
The program wont start. When i install it it only downloads a 2 Mb content, and if I click play it says:
"FGSteam Launcher: Unable to start Fantasy Grounds updater. Please uninstall and reinstall via Steam interface
Error: 267"
I tried that, I tried restarting steam, and I even tried restarting the computer but no change, after every reinstall its the same...

What Operating System are you using? Is it 32 or 64 bit? Have you moved or changed any installation paths?
