The SRD is the framework that others can build content for 5E on without worrying about stepping on the intellectual property toes of Wizards of the Coast. For example, previously companies would release content that was "compatible with the 5th edition of the worlds most popular game" while now they can say "D&D 5E Compatible (under OGL)". They can reference "You get Advantage on the attack" instead of "You get a tactical advantage on the attack" and such.
This is a Good Thing™ but the full rules, like you have, will have more content and more fleshed out content than just the SRD. Like there is a single example Background in the SRD while the Player's Handbook has all of them available.
Oh well, I'm happy with my purchases and I want great things for Fantasy Grounds. Have no problem sending them some bones
the PHB again has waaaaay more descriptive info and also has more archetypes than the SRD.
I think the PHB is still a must buy for most 5e GMs and the MM still adds good value. I dont own the DMG so cant comment on that one.
We decided to go ahead and give away our version of the SRD content for free instead of charging for it. Some people are going to be happy with just the SRD content and others are going to want the full content. We hope people who were on the fence before will see how awesome the SRD content is and then that will encourage them to go all-in for the full content pieces. I really have no idea how this will turn out.
Here is a blog post I wrote about the subject:
http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/entry.php?98-Wizards-of-the-Coast-announces-the-OGL-and-what-it-means-for-Fantasy-Grounds
Truth be told, I would of still bought those things. Planning on buying the DMG too. I just like what's going on here and want to support it
And I'm gussing it's you who have the rights to that Damned? Can I borrow it for awhile?
Kylania maybe?
Ahh what the heck - knock yourself out. Binge on it! Go mad you Good Thing!
Specificaly to be just a player and not a DM.
If playing with an Ultimate GM you dont need anything
If playing with a Full GM you will need a Full License also.
All licenses now include the D&D Basic Rules and the full SRD in Fantasy Grounds format.
You can do a LOT with this (as a player and as GM) but you wont have access to all the Players Handbook options. You can manually type them in if needed - you would only enter in those that YOU need.
If you want all the PHB options in FG format all ready to go then the Players Handbook (Complete Core Classes) is the way to go.
