you can play it, but i expect to hit the "wall" we all gacha players face after making progress close to endgame

Seriously, a single player tactics game with in-app purchases? Hard pass.

Thank you for telling us, I don't know what most of us would have done without knowing what someone as important as you was going to do.

I'm thinking about quitting too, especially if they won't even let me spend money. The sales apparently aren't going through for me, so I guess Steam itself is strangling the life out of this gacha

Immature much?
It's a FREE Game. The gacha part can be skipped cause you getting enough free stuff to use during the one part of the game you can use them too and the other part (Main story) doesn't need them AT ALL.
So you pass on a over 100 Hours free tactical game only because the devs decided to add some gacha so they can have some bread on their table when one of us decide to pay a couple of € on cosmetics to support them IF we want to?

Congrats! Now go pay 60 - 70€ for a 10 hours game instead of enjoying a free to play one with 10 times the worth of such games.

It could also be the reverse. An actual example: I paid $10 for Batman Arkham Knight. Got 90+ hours from it.

Definately didn't cost only $10 when it was new.
You just bought it after it was released for a very long time and was on sale which is a different story.

Thanks. Luckily I dodged it too.

But the contents are the same. 90+ hours of content is 90+ hours of content , regardless of when I purchased it.

What I mean is that there are so many other games that are one-time purchases, are not more than $20 (literally all AAA title games before 2016).

SoC is nice, and I'll probably try it out a little longer, but the original point still stands. I don't agree that "gacha = instant reject".

But there is truth in the fact that the money spent on microtransactions could very easily be spent on other games and be traded for thousands of hours of gameplay/gametime , and they get to keep the game in the end as well ! (no EoS)

I mean I appreciate them telling us. They drive home the point that reviews actually do matter as they help the consumer understand what game developers try to hide, or down-play, from you.

Thanks you for leaving

I actually don't know why you took the time to write and post something no one actually cares about. you could have posted the opposite and still no one would care.

I said what I said because there are too many idiots who believe you cannot play the game at all because it is like most typical gacha games. It's not, and people who believe it is are idiots. End of story.

Sure I understand, though I think everyone knows you can play it without spending - It's just that they are at odds with the monetisation of the game. And that's perfectly understandable. Gacha games are all predatory in nature. They rely on FOMO, time-gates, stamina systems, and even chance (to an extent).

All of those elements combined aren't really aimed at fostering goodwill from the community. Hence why reviews are mixed instead of very positive (or more).

Sure, except randomization is already pretty common in Rogue-likes. This game effectively aims to create dynamic continuous content through its Rogue-like mode, something tactics gamers yearn for because there is too easily a limit on what can be done and the game ends. I paid $50 for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and while it has better story and characters, it just doesn't come close in terms of gameplay. I was practically falling asleep while playing it and always felt like the answer was just bigger numbers.

This game is more like Tactics Ogre Reborn, which I also purchased, and slow drips you the characters you would normally recruit along the way. It creates a highly entertaining management cycle of choosing what you most need to spend gold on, who needs training, who needs gear. You can't afford to just give everyone everything all the time. The battles require careful planning and paying attention to potential instant death, something the endgame of Tactics Ogre was good for as well. The gacha barely even matters because you don't always get to pick who joins your team in singleplayer games either, always forced to use who the developers decide you get. And once you do get a legendary, you never need to pull a duplicate to max them out.

Overall, I quite enjoy the game loop, the management grind, and the casual nature. I'm not going to burn through it in a few hours, barely even appreciating the effectiveness of an item upgrade because the game is too short, and I don't feel compelled to get the battlepass or anything else because they only award things you earn by playing anyway. Sure, it doesn't have puzzle dungeons and exploration for hidden chests and popup random encounters like some games, but it's great at what it does. I only wish it had the storyline and cutscenes of something like Granblue Fantasy.
