Thank you will go have a peek at those now.
While different in tone since its a scifi mech series I'd even recommend the Front Mission 1st and 2nd remakes. Front Mission is one of the OGs of all the tactical turn based RPGs with its deep customization and complexity. It was kind of infamous back in the day for its difficulty but its made somewhat easier in the remakes. The franchise has 4 mainline games in total but only the first two have been completely remade.
They can be a little bit of a challenge since enemies have module damage rather than a simple HP bar like most turn based RPGs. You need to destroy the cockpit to defeat enemy units and any unit can use melee, ranged, or long range weapons.
I'm currently playing the first remake and it has two campaigns. Once you beat a campaign there is ng+ where everything carries over though you still have to recruit the pilots again whose stats will have carried over from your previous playthrough.

-Into the Breach
-Disgaea series
-Phantom Brave
-Wanna Survive
-Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery
-Xcom
-Xenonaults
The upcoming game "Metal Slug Tactics" is also a promising one.
Soul Nomad
Yggdra Union
Children of Zodiarcs
Dark Deity
Pokemon Conquest
Bleach: The Third Phantom
Ragnarok Tactics
Final Fantasy Tactics was mentioned, but there's also Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced and FFTA2, while not as deep as FFT story, are both still good games.
I could keep going, but the list of great tactics games in this thread already can keep someone new to the genre playing for years.
Highly recommend Fire Emblem games, and if you some how run through all the what, 16 games now? there's a buttload of quality fan made full game mods, too.

If you like Xcom and the Evility (passive system) of disgaea or the ability customisation of SoC then Troubleshooter has you covered... 12 different chars with each 3 classes, 100's of passive abilities to mix and match which can lead to masteries that further enhance those passives, extensive gearing system, plenty of story and side content and none of the "80% chance to hit is 90% of the times a miss"-jank of Xcom and fully customisable in order to up the challenge, cut down on the grind or just to change the game up some.
I seriously can't believe how underrated and unknown this game is in comparison to Xcom that needed DLC and/or mods to get to the level the basegame of Troubleshooter is at.

Overwhelming Positive reviews for Recent and Overall...
I just ran out... granted I play Spiral non-stop waiting for more energy and usually save the energy potions for when an event happens (or they're about to expire)
